Development Agreement compliance <br />Research as directed by Community Development Director and City Planner <br />Assist CD Director with economic development analysis and research <br />GIS mapping and analysis <br />All Planning and Zoning Staff <br />Respondtoresident,business,anddeveloperrequestsforinformation(phone,email, <br />meetings) <br />Staff reports for Planning Commission and City Council <br />Website updates <br />Reporting <br />Code enforcement and rental issues <br />Theworkloadforplanningandzoningfluctuatesconsiderably.Staffdoesnotknowhowmuch <br />timewewillspendonadailybasisonthephoneoratthefrontcounterassistingresidentsand <br />businesses.Likewise,wedonotknowhowmanyplanningcaseswewillhaveinanymonth <br />untiltheapplicationdeadline.Eachcontactfromaresidentorbusinesscanresultina10-minute <br />conversationorseveralhoursofresearchandongoingdiscussions.Someofthesediscussions <br />and research result in planning cases, but many do not. <br />Generally,theplanningandzoningworkloadcanbedividedintothingsthathavetobedone <br />(processingplanningcases,respondingtoresident/businessinquiries,preparingforCityCouncil <br />andPlanningCommissionmeetings,verifyingcompliancewithdevelopmentagreements, <br />requiredreporting,etc)andthingsthatshouldbedone(zoningcodeamendments,districtplans, <br />websiteupdates,economicdevelopment,GISanddatamaintenance,trackingstateandregional <br />legislativeorpolicychanges,etc).Mostoftheplanningandzoningworkloadrevolvesaround <br />thethingsthathavetobedone.Thesethingstakemostofourtimeandareourpriorityonaday- <br />to-day basis. As time permits, we tackle our list of should do items. <br />Beingadequatelystaffedallowsustocompletethehavetodoitemswithinareasonable <br />responsetimeandwithanacceptablelevelofdetailandprofessionalismduringmostweeks. <br />Withoutanadequatelevelofstaffing,wewillneedtoexaminethehavetodoworkloadand <br />findwheretaskscanbedelayedorminimallycompleted.Asshownabove,thecurrentinternhas <br />primaryresponsibilityforseveralhavetodoitemsincludingsomeplanningcases,signage <br />requestsandpermits,landscapinginspectionsandotherdevelopmentagreementcompliance <br />issues, and research related to resident/business inquiries. <br />Overthepastfewyears,theCityhasbeenfortunatetohavesomeverywell-trainedandhard- <br />workinginterns.Ourcurrentintern,however,hasoutperformedhispredecessors.Mr.Bachler <br />hasacceptedincreasingresponsibilitiesfarexceedingwhatwewouldtypicallyexpectfroman <br />intern.WhenMr.Bachlerfindspermanentemployment,itisveryunlikelythattheCitywillfind <br />another intern who can provide the same level of service to the City. <br />22 <br />Page of <br />
