t
Karen Barton indicated that she would be bringing the strategy back to Council on December I I
for"receipt", per the Mayor's request.
Chair Kunkel stated that the EDC needs to think about how to shed light on this strategy and
public financing for the Council. He also noted that the estimated budget was presented to
Council,but is negotiable.
Chair Kunkel stressed that the EDC needs to decide what the critical issues are and push those
forward.
Karen Barton added that an administrative assistant, in the form of clerical support, is not
needed. However, a department assistant would be preferred and necessary to launch all
programs associated with the strategic plan. She also noted that without TCAAP, there would be
no need to add any additional staff.
Chair Kunkel indicated that he thought it should be kept in the budget for now.
Rob Davidson stated that he thought the Gateway signs should also be kept in the budget and
added that the City needs to have its name on the water tower.
Karen Barton suggested spreading the installation of the gateway signs over a 5 year period.
Mayor Aplikowski added that she thinks the Mayor's Council on business affairs is important
and should also be stressed.
There was a general consensus of the members to present the budget as-is to the Council.
Business Retention Luncheon Review
Karen Barton stated that there were 58 attendees at the luncheon, including staff and EDC
members. She also noted that she received a lot of positive feedback from the attendees.
Mayor Aplikowski stated that the businesses want to know what's going on in the City, who to
contact and acknowledge that they're there.
Dale Beane added stated that during the introductions, all of the staff and EDC folks should be
grouped together and have stand-out name tags.
Mayor Aplikowski added that the Shoreview and New Brighton EDC business meetings are very
good and that those meetings are listed in the newspaper.
Karen Barton noted that we need to have sign-in sheets and name tags at the next event.
Dale Beane requested that an attendance list from this past meeting be put together. Karen
Barton indicated that she would put together the list, send thank you's and ask follow-up
questions. She also asked if we wanted to set a date for the next event.
2
