ARDEN HILLS PARKS, TRAILS & RECREATION COMMITTEE 2 • <br />Review of Summer Park Projects <br />Director Moore briefly reviewed summer projects completed to -date, including: <br />■ Ingerson Park playstructure completion <br />■ Pavement projects completed at Perry Park (warminghouse entrance); Sampson Park (trail <br />connection/parking lot); and Freeway Park (ramp to ice rink) <br />■ Cummings Park (warminghouse fire damage repaired by City staff at a substantial savings) <br />■ Crepeau Nature Park (bridge repaired; dam installed) <br />■ Pickup truck purchase (increased size to 1 ton) <br />Trinity Lutheran Church/Hazelnut Park <br />Director Moore provided a brief history of the City's use of the Trinity Lutheran Church parking <br />lot. Mr. Moore provided a report on improvements made to the church's parking lot as <br />compensation for past usage by the City. Mr. Moore requested suggestions from committee <br />members. <br />It was the consensus of committee members that the parking lot and access to the park was vital <br />to the community and Hazelnut Park. <br />MOTION: Krenn moved and Straumann seconded a motion to recommend staff pursue <br />preliminary discussions with Trinity Lutheran Church regarding purchase of their <br />parking lot and adjacent strip of land, with the possibility of leasing the parking <br />lot back to the church for their use. <br />PARK UPDATE <br />Mr. Moore reported that the City's Consulting Engineer firm would be developing a garden <br />design; reported on recent trail grooming improvements by the Parks Maintenance staff; and <br />provided an update on Tony Schmidt Park construction by Ramsey County. <br />Mr. Moore requested setting a date for Park Tour III and it was scheduled for the next committee <br />meeting date, 6:00 p.m. on September 26, 2000, at City Hall to briefly review any agenda items; <br />then on to the parks (Crepeau, Freeway, Floral, and Royal Hills). <br />Committee member Krenn reported several maintenance items along the trails. <br />RECREATION UPDATE <br />Ms. Olson provided an update on recreation programs to -date. Discussion included the increased <br />usage of the soccer program; new preschool soccer league; staffing of after school and evening <br />programs; Skyhawks after school sports programs; favorable comments from residents and <br />increased numbers from new recreation brochure; 2000 Safety Camp and preliminary talks with <br />the City of Roseville for future camps, continuing discussions with the future of the City of <br />Shoreview; and the need for Arden Hills pictures included in the next issues of the recreation <br />guide so it fully represents the City. <br />
