Perry Park and Hazelnut Park Playground Structure Replacement
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka stated the existing play structure at Perry Park was
installed in the summer of 1997. The play structure is a steel structure that is showing signs of
wear. The wood surrounding the structure is in poor condition and the steel is rusting. The 2016
Capital Improvement Program (CIP) identified the play structure replacement in 2016.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka explained the existing play structure at Hazelnut
Park was installed in the summer of 1997. The play structure has needed multiple repairs in the
last two years. The play structure is identified in the CIP to be replaced in 2017.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka indicated the playground at Perry Park receives
heavy use during the adult softball season. The trail connections around Perry Park make it easily
accessible for many families in Arden Hills and surrounding communities. It was noted neither of
the existing playgrounds meet current accessibility standards or safety guidelines and will be
brought into compliance.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka reported quotes received from
Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground were summarized by staff and it was noted the pricing provided
in the quotes are as listed in the Minnesota State contract. Staff reported Minnesota/Wisconsin
Playground installed the playground structure at Valentine Park. The proposed equipment will be
similar in style and colors. The playground at Hazelnut Park receives heavy use from the
neighborhood and the City of Arden Hills run Summer Playground Program. In the summer, the
park has an average of 50 participants every day.
