Storm Drainage Improvements:
Storm Drainage improvements involve increasing the storm collection capacity of the
system already in-place in the neighborhoods. Storm water quality improvements, as
required by Rice Creek Watershed District, are not required on this project as there is no
increase in impervious surface.

Water System Improvements:
Based on review of watermain break history the improvements to the water system
include replacement of the water main on all of the reconstructed roadways.
Additionally all hydrants and gate valves will be replaced. The existing water main along
Wedgewood Circle, Brueberry Lane and Parkshore Drive will remain in place.

Sanitary Sewer System Improvements:
The proposed sanitary sewer improvements include adjusting existing manholes, partial
or full manhole repairs, repairing any joint offsets or sags, and lining sanitary sewer
main/services that are experiencing I/I. Spot repairs are needed along Floral Drive and
Norma Circle. Sanitary sewer lining is proposed on Indian Oaks Court and Indian Oaks
Trail west of James Avenue.

Financial Implications
The estimated total project cost for the improvements is $3,301,192.51 which includes all
overhead costs.
Consistent with the City’s Assessment Policy, 37% overhead costs for the street
improvements has been included, which was used to calculate preliminary assessment
rates. The overhead includes a 10% contingency and 27% indirect costs (engineering,
legal, and administrative).
The project costs are summarized as follows:

Improvement Estimated Reclamation
Area Cost
Estimated Reconstruction
Area Cost
Street Improvements $219,295.47 $1,503,996.72
Sanitary Sewer Improvements - $270,724.63
Water Main Improvements - $751,124.63
Storm Sewer and Drainage Improvements $25,844.50 $530,206.20
Total Estimated Project Cost by Area $245,139.97 $3,056,052.54
GRAND TOTAL $3,301,192.51

The City’s portion of the project costs are currently budgeted from the PIR and Utility
Enterprise Funds (sanitary sewer, surface water management and watermain funds).
