1 <br /> <br /> <br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Position Title: Assistant City Engineer, Engineer in Training Following attainment of a PE, the Engineer in Training designation will be removed per City Council action <br />Department: Public Works <br />Accountable to: Public Works Director <br />Positions Supervised: None <br />Status: Regular Full Time <br /> March 2020 <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVES <br />Performs difficult professional work planning and design of City infrastructure, reviewing plans and <br />specifications for public and private infrastructure improvement projects, reviewing site development plans, <br />coordinating technical civil engineering issues with City staff, assisting the general public with engineering <br />related matters, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of <br />the Public Works Director/City Engineer. Reasonable <br />accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION <br />Maintains/manages the City’s ICON Pavement Management System. This would include maintaining the up-to- <br />date rating of the City streets together with the historical ratings. Overseeing/performing the rerating of <br />approximately one-fourth of the City streets on an annual basis. Works with the Public Works Director to provide <br />recommendations for the street reconstruction/rehabilitation/maintenance CIP. <br /> <br />Leads the preparation of feasibility studies, plans and specifications, bidding and construction administration for <br />City projects. <br /> <br />Maintains/manages the City’s Municipal State Aid (MSA) system including annual reporting, revision and <br />financial status. <br /> <br />Reviews/comments on building permits, site plans and grading and erosion control permit applications. <br /> <br />Maintains relationships with Rice Creek Watershed District (RCWD) and monitors funding opportunities. <br /> <br />Manages/Monitors City’s compliance with our MS4 storm water permit. <br /> <br />Works with the Public Works Director, Public Works Superintendent, and Recreation Coordinator to provide <br />recommendations for the City trail and sidewalk reconstruction/rehabilitation/maintenance CIP. Maintains ICON <br />pavement rating system for trails. Assists the Recreation Coordinator with grant applications for trail <br />improvements. <br /> <br />Responds to engineering related inquiries from general public and City staff. <br />
