Mr. Todd Blomstrom
Trunk Watermain Condition Assessment
August 18, 2020
Page 2
geotechnical field work, and review the resulting geotechnical report. Soil testing will be
conducted to assist in evaluating the potential corrosive nature of soils along the pipe alignment.
A map generally categorizing soil corrosion risk as low, moderate or high will be prepared based
on measurements of moisture, particle size, acidity, and electrical conductivity. TKDA will
prepare an initial high-level evaluation for implementation of anodes or cathodic protection that
could be considered to manage pipe corrosion.
f) Review of critical infrastructure: TKDA will review the existing utilities and infrastructure in
proximity to the existing watermain that would be affected by a watermain failure or that would
limit repairs of a watermain failure.
g) Interview public works staff: TKDA will interview Public Works staff to document their
institutional knowledge of the existing trunk watermain.
h) Prepare Summary Memo and Recommendations: TKDA will summarize all of the findings of the
desktop study in a technical memorandum. This document will prioritize where the watermain is
at most risk of failure and where a field investigation should occur to further understand the
condition of the existing watermain and repairs or replacement that may be needed.
III.
