Bac kyard Chic kens Survey
23 / 81
87 Neighbor had c hickens , no issues or c omplaints 10/19/2020 9:11 AM
88 I grew up on a farm and have experience with free range c hick ens but understand there are
challenges with urban chickens.
10/19/2020 8:25 AM
89 Free eggs. Noisy dumping at end of seas on or when “fun” wears off 10/19/2020 7:37 AM
90 It was very interes ting to our grandc hildren, but it was noisy and disturbing t o a lot of the
neighbors .
10/18/2020 9:34 PM
91 Our friends in Winches ter MA hav e nex t door c hickens in a very small y ard. There is no
problem.
10/18/2020 9:27 PM
92 I have multiple friends that k eep c hic k ens for eggs and to teac h their kids respons ibility in
Fridley. The chickens have become a s taple of the neighborhood. People walk to their house
jus t to watch the c hick ens for a bit.
10/18/2020 8:39 PM
93 If there is not s tric t enforcement of the ordinance, including the requirements f or f encing,
loc ation, and cleanliness of the coop, then it c auses significant problems for neighbors .
Chickens als o increase the presence of raccoons and other v ermin.
10/18/2020 8:35 PM
94 You could hear them 3 houses down 10/18/2020 7:03 PM
95 Pos itive: great learning ex perience for kids , and not just our own kids but neighbors as well.
The chic k ens have pers onalities so our f amily and neighbors have loved them and had their
fav orites . Plus, the eggs are delic ious.
10/18/2020 6:05 PM
96 Neighbor within 500-1000 feet from my propert y 10/18/2020 4:21 PM
97 It’s fun to see them and f res h eggs are great!10/18/2020 3:56 PM
98 Inex pensiv e renewable source of food, and good teac hing example f or children.10/18/2020 2:18 PM
99 Their keeping c hic k ens has enriched their family’s lives and prov ided fres h eggs to them and
their neighbors.
10/18/2020 12:25 PM
100 Providing eggs to the family was pos itive, but the s mell and nois e was irritating 10/18/2020 11:52 AM
101 We’ve had lots of neighbors with chic kens and have had zero issues.10/18/2020 11:14 AM
102 The coyotes, fox, hawks and neighborhood c ats and dogs stalk ed them.10/18/2020 10:05 AM
103 A good experienc e as a child. But this was in the 1940’s when people needed home gardens
etc . I somet imes miss the rooster in the morning. Howev er, we liv e in a different world today.
10/17/2020 11:07 PM
104 I have friends who keep chickens. The option should be av ailable to all, regardless of where
we live.
10/17/2020 9:09 PM
105 It was not an is sue; traffic is noisier than a couple of chickens .10/17/2020 9:00 PM
106 I did not actually k now the numerous owners personally, but I spent one long, nearly sleeples s
evening s urrounded by crowing roos ters in a s mall town. They had no c oncept whats oever of
what time sunris e was. We heard roos ters literally all night long!
10/17/2020 8:57 PM
107 The chic k ens were quiet and well c ared for 10/17/2020 6:15 PM
108 They are an enjoyable thing that includes getting the f amily and f riends out side. Plus y ou c an
look forward to having fresh eggs in the morning f or a good day at work or s c hool.
10/17/2020 5:24 PM
109 They have not had negative experienc es .10/17/2020 4:14 PM
110 I've liv ed in San Juan, a large dens e c ity. Raising chickens and was ex tremely common,
everybody lov ed c hickens
10/17/2020 12:31 PM
111 They're a fairly low maintenance s ourc e of eggs that haven't caus ed any is sues.10/17/2020 12:12 PM
112 I have not k ept chickens, but good friends kept them in their bac k yard in the Midway
neighborhood of St. Paul. Not only was it a great learning ex perience for their k ids and source
of f res h eggs , but I observed how it brought them closer to their neighbors. They decided to
share the care of the c hickens (and the eggs ) with a neighbor down the street, whic h creat ed a
stronger sense of c ommunity. The c hick ens helped them meet other neighbors who would stop
by to observe/feed/c hat about the birds . They have had only pos it ive experiences, and they
10/17/2020 11:43 AM
