MVHS Trail Improvements – PW-21-0105
January 11, 2021
Page 3

ǣ̳̳̳ʹͲʹͳ̳Ǥ

Subtask 2.2 Wetland Services
Bolton & Menk will thoroughly investigate the available background information needed prior to visiting
the site. This includes compiling information as follows:

1. Available Aerial Photographs
2. Ramsey County LiDAR Maps
3. National Wetlands Inventory Maps
4. Ramsey County Soil Survey Maps
5. MNDNR Public Waters Maps

Subtask 2.2a Level 2 Wetland Delineation
We will visit the site to delineate all aquatic resource boundaries within the designated study area. The
delineation will include performing transects and sampling in the vicinity of those wetlands, placing 3-
foot pin flags at the limits of any wetlands found. Our delineator will use a sub-meter GPS unit to
accurately locate and map each point and preparing a written report of our findings.

Subtask 2.2b Aquatic Resource Impact Permitting
Bolton & Menk will use the aquatic resource delineation to determine and prepare the appropriate permit
application to account for any aquatic resource impacts proposed by the project. This will include the
MN Joint Application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Local Government Unit, as well as an
MPARS application completed for review by the MNDNR. The applications will include GIS based
figures and sequencing analysis, permit narrative and project plan set.

Subtask 2.2c Meetings - Wetland Permitting
In some cases, the reviewing agencies request additional information and/or an on-site meeting during the
review process. If our attendance is requested at a meeting to discuss the acceptance of the delineated
boundaries or the agencies request additional information, this service will be provided on an hourly basis
at our Wetland Specialist rate. We have included one site meeting as a part of this proposal.

Task 2 Deliverables: A digital copy of the topographic survey base map, in AutoCAD, including
topographic survey, right-of-way and property line information. Aquatic resource delineation and
necessary wetland permit applications.

Task 3: Geotechnical Investigation
Bolton & Menk has retained Braun Intertec as a sub-consultant for geotechnical services for this project.
The purpose of Braun’s geotechnical evaluation will be to characterize subsurface geologic conditions at
selected exploration locations, evaluate their impact on the project, and provide geotechnical
recommendations for the design and construction of the trail improvements project. Braun’s proposal and
full scope of work is available upon request. The geotechnical evaluation will include:

x 6 Penetration Borings, ranging in depth from 10 to 14.5 feet
x 3 Penetration Borings, ranging in depth from 20 to 25 feet
x 1 penetration boring to a depth of 15 feet in the area of a stormwater pond
x Geotechnical Report including:
o Log of borings
o Summary of the subsurface conditions
o Discussion regarding reuse of on-site material during construction
o Recommendations for preparing structure and pavement subgrades
