1997 PARK FUND BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS
• The owner of Arden Manor has received letters from the City regarding the drainage
problem. There has been $1,500 - $3,000 budgeted for this park in 1997, but nothing can
be done at the park until the owner fixes the drainage problem.
Hazelnut park will remain at the top of the list, the playstructure there is 15 years old.
There has been$30,000 - $35,000 budgeted for the playstructure in 1997.
There is $20,000 budgeted for the trail in 1997. There may be more money towards the
trail in 1997 if a grant is received.
The Old Highway 10 and County Road E garden plot are budgeted for an upgrade for
1997.
Megan Ricke made a motion to accept the 1997 park fund budget and Mary Robinson
seconded the motion.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Program Report
The track program was a success this year, there was about 210 kids between Island Lake
and Valentine Hills Elementary Schools. The adult softball is going well. The summer
• programs are due to start in June.
Directors Report
The City will be receiving about $8,000 for park dedication fees from the Buetow lot split
planning case. Balfany and Ogren are also due to pay park dedication fees.
The tennis courts at Cummings and Ingerson parks have been resurfaced. The flower
beds have been planted, with the exception of County Road E and Lexington Avenue.
Some trails will be sealcoated this year.
Tony Schmidt Report
Tom Mulcahy gave a report on Tony Schmidt park redevelopment program. The City
needs to show continuing support for the redevelopment of Tony Schmidt Park. It was
stated that the City probably could not provide any funds out of the planning budget
towards the Tony Schmidt project. However, he felt the Parks Committee should set up a
meeting in June with Dick Wedell and see if some of the neighbors would like to attend
for the support of the Tony Schmidt project, and to keep it number two on the priority
list.
