Arden Hills Parks,Trails and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes 4 <br /> October 22,2002 <br /> ❖ Parks are working to remove the nets and are getting the winter sports equipment ready <br /> • for the season. <br /> Committee Member Garretson asked if they would place anything in the newsletter in the <br /> absence of the winter guide. Council Liaison Larson asked if they would need more than a page. <br /> Ms. Olson stated that she would be doing a one or two page flyer that would include all of the <br /> classes. Council Liaison Larson clarified that Committee Member Garretson meant to include a <br /> page with the newsletter or the utility mailings. Ms. Olson stated that she would see if they <br /> could save space in the newsletter. <br /> 1. HCM- Presentation and Discussion <br /> Tim McIlwain provided the Committee with a packet overview of the proposal for the park <br /> shelters. Mr. McIlwain stated that they would like to receive comments from the Committee <br /> regarding the proposal for the five shelters. <br /> Committee Member Krenn noted Cummings Park stating that he reviewed the area for the <br /> proposed structure. He stated that it would be sticking over the hockey rink by 17-feet. He <br /> expressed concerns regarding the close proximity of the building to the baseball fields. Mr. <br /> McIlwain stated that they would review the area noting that they are presently reviewing the site <br /> plans. Committee Member Krenn noted that they do not own the parking lot or the land behind <br /> the building. <br /> Mr. Moore stated that this park could possibly change within the priorities and referenced <br /> Guidant and the park dedication fee. He explained that Guidant has stated that they would build <br /> the park structure in Cummings Park. He further explained that based on decisions to be made <br /> by Council it could elevate Cummings to the number one park to address next year. Mr. <br /> McIlwain stated that they could meet with the people putting together the parks to determine the <br /> actual needs and would be sensitive to all issues. <br /> Mr. McIlwain noted that at the last meeting they were requested to consider smaller shelters and <br /> provided the Committee with examples. He also reviewed medium sized shelters with the <br /> Committee. He referenced the conceptual construction cost estimates and reviewed stating that <br /> they tried to use numbers that are historically based. <br /> Matt Lysne reviewed the dollars with the Committee. He referenced a correction for funding <br /> stating that it would be 2003 dollars. He reviewed the costs with the Committee. He stated that <br /> Charles Perry costs are for the large prototype with toilet rooms and kitchens. He explained that <br /> it has considerable square footage for the patio area and reviewed the costs with the Committee. <br /> He explained that the prices do not include estimates for winter site construction and work for <br /> the sewer, water or utility extensions or telephone. He stated that ventilation is included in the <br /> cost estimate but heating and cooling costs have not been provided as a part of this breakdown. <br /> Mr. McIlwain stated that they did not want it assumed that the buildings would be air- <br /> conditioned. He clarified that the structures are three-season structures. <br />
