• And I don ' t mean two or three ball fields -- I mean we
should right now resolve as a policy matter for this
city that our objective is to return the usable portion
of the arsenal property to local public use.
This is a big job, probably too big to do alone.
Therefore , I propose that Arden Hills take the lead in
forming a coalition of nearby cities and other
interested groups to make this dream a reality.
The settlement of the arsenal pollution litigation
provides an excellent opportunity for discussion of
creative possibilities that can now be explored with
the federal government in a non-adversarial setting.
I suggest that Arden Hills take the time and make the effort
to join with Shoreview and New Brighton to solve the
problem presented by the Army ' s proposal in a creative
way. I feel that, working together, we can find a plan
for the Army ' s training needs and preserve and enhance
the natural asset that we have in our midst.
I ask that you invite our neighboring cities , and other
interested groups , to form an Arsenal Action Team that
can mobilize support for public-minded use for this
property in the coming decades .
• Nothing less than a major effort will prevent a default of
major proportions .
Our early citizen-leaders saw the potential of this
property. we must do likewise and act to save this
heritage for public use and enjoyment.
•
