Coniferous trees may be considered equivalent to <br />the sizes shown by dividing the height of the coniferous tree in feet by 2.4. <br /> 4. Minimum size at time of planting. <br /> a) Two and one-half (2.5) caliper inches for deciduous trees. <br /> b) Six (6) feet in height for coniferous trees. <br /> 5. Trees Along Street Frontage. A minimum of one tree shall be provided along the <br />right of way for every fifty (50) feet of public street frontage. <br /> 6. Perennials and Shrubberies. At least ten (10) percent of the total landscaped area <br />shall be covered with perennials and/or shrubbery and be planted within the perimeter of <br />private parking, building, and driveway areas. <br /> 7. Planting Islands. Planting islands shall be required to visually break up expanses of <br />hard-surface parking areas, to provide safe and efficient traffic movement, and to define <br />rows of parking. Planting islands shall occupy at least ten (10) percent of the parking area. <br />Planting islands shall be edged with concrete curbs. Parking lot planting islands shall be a <br />minimum of 150 square feet in area, be of appropriate width and length, and include at <br />least one tree meeting the requirements of this ordinance. <br /> G. Landscape Design Specifications. All landscape plans and landscaping under this <br />subdivision shall follow and be in compliance with the following requirements, together <br />with all other Code regulations: <br /> 1. Diverse Selection. The landscape plan shall include a full complement of over story, <br />ornamental and evergreen trees, shrubbery, and ground covers that are hardy and <br />appropriate for the locations in which they are planted, and which provide year-round <br />color and interest. <br /> 2. Existing Plant Credit. Plant materials existing on a site at the time of development, <br />may be used as a credit against the requirements of these landscape regulations; the City <br />Council shall determine the extent of credit allowed, based on the evaluation of species, <br />size, location, quality of existing plant materials and the consistency with the intent of these <br />regulations. <br /> 3. Plant Selection. The City maintains a list of trees that may not be used to satisfy the <br />landscaping requirement of this section.
