The primary portion
of this task involved taking soil borings and developing a Geotechnical Evaluation Report, both of
which were performed by Braun Intertec Corporation. The remainder of this task is presented here,
involving summarizing the recommendations of the report and giving additional context to them for
implications to the proposed trail project. Refer to Appendix C for a copy of the Geotechnical
Evaluation Report.

8.2 RESULTS
Thirteen soil borings were taken as a part of this evaluation. Based on the Soil Boring Location
Sketch in the Geotechnical Evaluation Report, they appear to be spaced approximately evenly just
off the west side of Old Snelling Ave. / Old Highway 10 from Lakeshore Pl. south to Lake Valentine
Rd. Three of the borings included pavement at the surface and may have been taken along the
paved roadway shoulder. These borings indicated the presence of three to four inches of
bituminous over eight to ten inches of concrete, over eight to ten inches of aggregate base.
Sub-surface conditions were highly variable. Topsoil fill varied from absent to 1.5 foot thick and fill
included intermixed soils with variable gravel content and possible cobbles and boulders. Glacial
deposits were encountered below the fill within two borings and contained variable amounts of
gravel with the potential to contain cobbles and boulders. No groundwater was observed while
performing the borings. The moisture content of the soils tested on selected penetration samples
varied from approximately 12 to 25 percent, indicating that the materials were likely near the
probable optimum moisture content. The organic content of selected sample material tested was
about two percent.
