<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ARDEN HILLS REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />JUNE 10,2002 <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />Council Member Larson asked how effective the program was. <br /> <br />Council Member Aplikowski stated she believed the Sheriffs Department wanted <br />to be a part of this so they could stay connected with the students, She stated she <br />was not against the program, but she asked if the $35,000,00 was the best use of <br />the City funds, She requested the Sheriffs Department come in and update <br />Council on the DARE program and why they should support it. <br /> <br />Mayor Probst stated he also had concern about this program. He indicated he had <br />not seen any figures that proved this was a successful program. He stated this was <br />becoming a significant cost item. He indicated he was not inclined to support it, <br />unless there was a strong case made for the program, <br /> <br />Council Member Grant stated he wanted to hear more about the School Resource <br />Officer as well as have the Sheriffs Department give Council a presentation on <br />the DARE program. Mr. Lynch replied the School Resource Officer was an <br />enforcement officer in the schools, He indicated the students could contact the <br />School Resource Officer regarding criminal activity. He stated the Enforcement <br />Officer could enforce rules in the school. He indicated the DARE officer had a <br />totally different role, He stated the DARE officer presented infomlation on drug <br />use and life style choices. He indicated a School Resource Officer could not <br />duplicate what a DARE Officer could do in the schools, <br /> <br />Council Member Rem agreed she would like the Sheriffs Department to give a <br />presentation to Council regarding the program, <br /> <br />Mayor Probst suggested this be tabled to the last meeting in June, and requested <br />staff contact the Sheriffs Department on giving a presentation to Council. <br /> <br />MOTION: Council Member Aplikowski moved and Council Member Rem <br />seconded a motion to table this item to the June 24, 2002 Council <br />meeting, The motion carried unanimously (5-0), <br />
