He noted the Little Lakes Little League has approximately 1,400 <br />players on 100 Teams. <br /> <br />Mayor Probst indicated he was in favor of tl1e metal poles versus the use of wooden poles, even <br />though it may be slightly more expensive. <br /> <br />Councilmember Aplikowski inquired if the irrigation was necessary. Mr. Stonehouse indicated <br />based on his conversations witl1 area contractors all have used irrigation, witl1 the exception of <br />Roseville on one field, but ti1at field was not used for one year. <br /> <br />Councilmember Aplikowski asked what type of system would it be. Mr. Stonehouse indicated the <br />system would be similar to tl10se on golf courses. <br /> <br />Councilmember Aplikowski expressed coneern for tl1e contractor, her hesitation was based on tl1e <br />current experience with County Road F reeonstruction. Mr. Stonehouse assured Council, Veit & <br />Company is a reputable company. <br /> <br />Councilmember Aplikowski inquired as to the time frame oftl1e project Mr. Stonehouse indicated <br />tl1e start date goal is August 7, 1995. <br /> <br />Mr. Mark Peterson, 4468 Hamline Avenne, encouraged tl1e Council to move forward witl1 the <br />project, he believed it would be a great benefit to tl1e City. He currently works for tl1e Parks <br />Department in Plymouth and is familiar with such projects. He noted sod and irrigation are a must <br />iftl1e use of the fields are needed immediately, as are tl1e fields in Arden Hills. <br /> <br />Mr. Peterson applauded the efforts of Ms. Walsh and Ms. Ricke at obtaining funding for tl1e project, <br />he has never seen where 50% of project cost is funded by donations. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricke commented tl1e lighting issue addressing concerns of residents and tl1e Sheriff's <br />Department and if available she would like to see tl1e second field also serviced by lights in this <br />project. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricke noted in 1982 tl1e Park Dedication fund was at $286,000 and each year tl1e Committee <br />has recommended to spend wisely and conservatively. The fund is now at $600,000. She noted <br />even with the expenditure oftl1e Perry Park project, there will be a healtl1y fund balance remaining. <br /> <br />Councilmember Keim inquired what tl1e cost of tl1e second lighting would be. Ms. Walsh indicated <br />it would be approximately $25,000 and the current plan would allow for tl1e addition at a later date. <br />Ms. Walsh preferred tl1e expenditure go towards tl1e playground facility first. <br />
