I I I I I I I I- I I I I I I I Ie I ,ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - JULY 31,J 995 12, Mr. Doug McFarland, President of Little Lakes Little League, indicated tl1eir support for improvements to Perry Park. He noted the Little Lakes Little League has approximately 1,400 players on 100 Teams. Mayor Probst indicated he was in favor of tl1e metal poles versus the use of wooden poles, even though it may be slightly more expensive. Councilmember Aplikowski inquired if the irrigation was necessary. Mr. Stonehouse indicated based on his conversations witl1 area contractors all have used irrigation, witl1 the exception of Roseville on one field, but ti1at field was not used for one year. Councilmember Aplikowski asked what type of system would it be. Mr. Stonehouse indicated the system would be similar to tl10se on golf courses. Councilmember Aplikowski expressed coneern for tl1e contractor, her hesitation was based on tl1e current experience with County Road F reeonstruction. Mr. Stonehouse assured Council, Veit & Company is a reputable company. Councilmember Aplikowski inquired as to the time frame oftl1e project Mr. Stonehouse indicated tl1e start date goal is August 7, 1995. Mr. Mark Peterson, 4468 Hamline Avenne, encouraged tl1e Council to move forward witl1 the project, he believed it would be a great benefit to tl1e City. He currently works for tl1e Parks Department in Plymouth and is familiar with such projects. He noted sod and irrigation are a must iftl1e use of the fields are needed immediately, as are tl1e fields in Arden Hills. Mr. Peterson applauded the efforts of Ms. Walsh and Ms. Ricke at obtaining funding for tl1e project, he has never seen where 50% of project cost is funded by donations. Ms. Ricke commented tl1e lighting issue addressing concerns of residents and tl1e Sheriff's Department and if available she would like to see tl1e second field also serviced by lights in this project. Ms. Ricke noted in 1982 tl1e Park Dedication fund was at $286,000 and each year tl1e Committee has recommended to spend wisely and conservatively. The fund is now at $600,000. She noted even with the expenditure oftl1e Perry Park project, there will be a healtl1y fund balance remaining. Councilmember Keim inquired what tl1e cost of tl1e second lighting would be. Ms. Walsh indicated it would be approximately $25,000 and the current plan would allow for tl1e addition at a later date. Ms. Walsh preferred tl1e expenditure go towards tl1e playground facility first.
