He advised height and area * <br /> variances would be required for the Business sign (free-standing) st the entrance <br /> to the site, the Kenu-Board sign for the drive-up service lane and the Low <br /> Clearance aign at tha entrance to the drive-up aervice lene. <br /> The Planner stated the applicant is requesting an additional directional sign at <br /> the site; two directional signs are allowed par location and additional signs <br /> must be approved by Council. The additional directional sign is being requested <br /> for orderly traffic flow and safety purposes. <br /> Council was referred to the Planning Commission minutes of 12-7-88, and the Board <br /> of Appeals minutes of 12-3-88, recommending approval of the Height and Area <br /> variances for the Menu Board, not to exceed 5.9 feet and approval of the Low <br /> Clearance Sign Variance for safety purposes. Both bodies recommended approval of <br /> the additional Directional Sign for traffic safety purposes and denial of the <br /> height and area variances for the Business Sign. <br /> There waa discuaaion relativa to the three eigna proposed to be located On the <br /> free-atanding Businee8 eign; the Plannar noted tha reader board is more of an <br /> advertieing aign than a community service eign. Council diecu.eed the eignage fof' <br /> the other tenant occupying the eits and how the sscond eign aize would be limited <br /> by the Burger King sign. <br /> Dennis Trisler, Northland Construction Company, and Del Blaske, Burger King . <br /> franchise operator, were present and requested Council consideration of the <br /> variances as requested. Trisler stated the Menu Board sign is the standard size <br /> for Burger King and ia sim1lar to the McDonald's menu board: he adviaed ths owner <br /> is agreeable to maintaining the 5.9 ft. height. <br /> Trisler stated the daveloper of tha property did not inform the tenanta of the <br /> dates of the heerings before the Planning Co~iesion end Council when the eite <br /> was initially approved for the propoeed use nor Were they advised of signage <br /> requirements. <br /> There was discussion relative to the 22 ft. sign height of the Blue Fox Inn, <br /> directly north of this site. Council advised the Blue Fox sign was in place prior <br /> to the adoption of the current Sign Ordinance, <br /> Council questioned if Burger King made any emall signs than the 8 ft. x 8 ft. <br /> proposed. Tr1aler noted the <br /> Burger King s1gn will remain as is if tha variance is not granted and the other <br /> tenant will reduce their sign size. <br /> Sather moved, seconded by Peck, that Council approve . <br /> three Directional Signs at the site location, the requested height and area <br /> variance for the Low Clearance Sign, and the Msnu Board Sign area variance and <br /> height variance at 5.9 ft., Caae '88-35, Burgar King, Lexington Avenue. Motion <br /> carried unanimously. (5-0) <br /> Council expresaed concern for the remaining tenant at the site location; it was <br /> noted the other tenant and/or the retail tenant may request Council address their <br /> signage needs. <br /> Trisler stated the Goodyear Service Center may not place signage on the free <br /> standing pylon sign, just on the building. <br /> Woodburn moved, aeconded by Sather, that Council deny the <br /> requested Height and Area Variance for the Businees Sign. identified as Sign "A", <br /> for Case #88-35, Burger King, Lexington Avenue. Hotion carried unanimously. (5-0) <br /> CASE #88-36; SITE Council was referred to the Planner's report of 12-7-88, <br /> PLAN REVIEW, CORP. relative to the Site Plan Review for the Hans Hagen Homes <br /> IlDQTRS.. CO. RD. Corporate Headquarters on County Road E-2 snd Cleveland <br /> &-2 & CLEVELAND Avenue. <br /> Bergly explained the proposed site plan meeta all Ordinance requirements in terms . <br /> of setback, parking and open space. <br />
