<br />Minutes of the rirden Hills Regular Council Meeting, August 8, 1988 <br />Page 6 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />REPAIR LIFT <br />STATION #5 <br /> <br />Public Works Supervisor Rsddatz advised Council the No. <br />5 Lift Station was struck by lightning and sustained damage <br />to the control panel. <br /> <br />Raddatz advised staff members worked through the night to manually run the lift <br />station and an electrician had rewired the panel as a interim repair measure. He <br />stated this has occurred in the past and the estimated cost for repair of the panel <br />is $1,000.00. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Raddatz explained each time a storm occurs the panel has been damaged and <br />recommended replacement of the panel with one which has new components that are not <br />affected by a power surge rather than repair the old panel. He advised the cost for <br />a new panel would be approximately $3,600.00. <br /> <br />Council questioned if'insurance would cover the cost of repair of the panel. <br /> <br />Raddatz advised the insurance coverage would include cost of repair, however he was <br />not sure if the overtime costs would be included in the coverage and advised he <br />would check past claims and reseach costs to date for repairs. <br /> <br />Moved by Peck, seconded by Winiecki, that Council authorize <br />the expenditure of funds not to exceed $4,000.00 from the Utility Maintenance <br />Budget for a'new control panel at Lift Station #5. Motion carried unanimously. <br />(3-0) <br /> <br />REPORT OF PARKS DIRECTOR <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1988 FALL PROGRAM <br />& SALARY SCHEDULE <br /> <br />Council was referred to the 1988 Fall Program Proposal <br />and Salary Schedule submitted by Park Director Buckley. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Buckley compared the program to the 1987 Fall Program and noted additional programs <br />that would be offered in 1988. He reviewed the 1988 salaries as outlined. <br /> <br />. Peck moved, seconded by Woodburn, that Council approve the <br />1988 Fall Program as outlined and Salary Schedule as submitted. <br /> <br />Councilmember Winiecki indicated she preferred the program and salaries be <br />discussed as separate items; she requested discussion of the salaries proposed for <br />the 1988 instructors. <br /> <br />Buckley explained the criteria for hiring personnel for program instruction which <br />include; age, skills, experience and training. He advised that consideration is <br />also given to the number of hours of instruction snd the current fees being set by <br />surrounding communities. <br /> <br />Council discussed the wage increases proposed for instructors and the salary range <br />set for Baton instruction. Winiecki preferred setting a salary and hiring a Baton <br />instructor at that rate. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Clerk Administrator Berger advised that he had reviewed such proposals and the <br />salary rates and programs are comparable to what other cities are offering; he <br />noted it is typical to increase salaries for repeat instructors. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Winiecki moved to amend the motion, seconded by Woodburn, <br />that Council approve the 1988 salaries for instructors at the 1987 salary rates and <br />set the Baton Instructor rate at $8.00 per hour and the Women's Self Defense <br />Seminar instruction at $25.00. Motion carried. (Winiecki and Woodburn voting in <br />favor; Peck opposed) (2-1) <br /> <br />Original motion as amended carried unanimously. (3-0) <br /> <br />ADD'L PARK MAINT. <br />PERSONNEL <br /> <br />Council was referred to a memorandum from Parks Director <br />Buckley dated 8-4-88 recommending hiring three persons to <br />fill part-time summer maintenance crew vacancies. <br /> <br />Buckley advised the <br />workers would still <br />fields and complete <br />be set at $5.00 per <br /> <br />vacancies were due to summer workers returning to school and <br />be needed thru August and September to cut grass, maintain ball <br />the installation of play equipment. He recommended the salary <br />hour and the three persons start on 8-15-88. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Peck moved, seconded by Winiecki, that Council approve the <br />hiring of three additional park maintenance personnel to replace present summer <br />maintenance crew, effective August 15, 1988 through September 1988. at a salary <br />rate of $5.00 per hour. Motion carried unanimously. (3-0) <br /> <br />. <br />
