The aSSl tion that municipal services will be maintained at current levels in-
di cates ,t a straight line projection of future space needs based upon projected
populat; growth is a reasonable method of detennining future requirements. How-
ever, sir several major City functians - public works, parks and recreation,
administt ion - are presently operating with space deficiencies, the existing
space fir had to be adjusted to current demands before meaningful projections
could be ode. The assessment of existing faci lities and the space adjustments
are as fo )WS:
PL c Work Building - The existing 66 foot by 72 foot building provides
4, 2 square feet of space, 4,080 square feet for vehicle and equipment
st, ge and 672 square feet for supportive functions - office, lunch room,
uti i'y rooms. The building is designed for 4 lanes of storage but currently
I ac ,mmodates 5 lanes of equipment. Adjusted to actual current needs, a
bui ling of approximately 5,940 square feet is required. Based upon its
CUI -nt level of usage, a space deficiency of 1,188 square feet exists.
,
.
, T~'ublic Works Director has also indicated a need for exterior storage
I . for snowfence, barricadei, poles, etc. This currently occurs in
; spa
, a vy limited area southwest of the Public Works Building. It is diffi-
cui to project the space requirement of this rather nebulous function,
. but -; 50' x 50' area, properly contained and screened, should be ade-
quc:e.
Ole: Fire ation - The Public Works and Parks and Recreation Depart-
nt, c rrent y utilize this building for off-season storage. The Director
estima e tthis 24 foot by 36 foot building (864 square feet) is also
over! ded by approximately 33 percent. Based upon that estimate,
1,150 square feet are required for present needs. A 286 square foot
deficiency exists.
Village Hall - This facility is probably the least deficient at this time,
, although space for public meetings is minimal, the offices of the Pork and
Recreation Department are crowded and inconvient, and storage space
Is inadequate. The forthcoming elimination of the City Police Depart-
ment wi II fre~ space which will undoubtedly satisfy any immediate needs.
Hawever, for the purpose of defining long term space needs, this study
assumes that the Police Department may return as a City function. All
things considered, a 20 percent deficiency is estimated. Converted to
floor area, an administrative/public meeting facility of approximately
3,250 square feet is currently required.
To summarize, the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments have
. 5,616 square feet of existing space. Approximately 7090 square feet are cur-
rently needed. The existing Village Hall facility contains approximately 2,700
square feet.
