<br /> -- --------------- ----- <br /> POSITION RESPONSIBILITY DESCRIPTION <br /> , <br />DATE: OCTOBER, 1990 <br />FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATION: PUBLIC WORKS ~ <br />POSITION PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT <br />----------------------------------------------------------------- <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: <br />The primary objectives of this position are planning, . <br />organizing, directing and coordinating the operation and <br />maintenance of public works activities, including the <br />supervision and review of maintenance personnel and adherence <br />to policies established by the city Council and City <br />Administrator. <br />MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: <br />l. Organize and direct the operation of public works <br /> activities including supervision and review of <br /> maintenance personnel in streets, water and sewer. <br />2. Communicate regularly with city council, consultants, <br /> staff, other governmental agencies, and community <br /> residents regarding service delivery, complaints and <br /> problem solving. <br />3. Planning and coordination of all purchasing of goods and <br /> services for street, water and sewer. <br />4. Planning and coordination of maintenance activities and <br /> equipment useage with other City departments. <br />5. Maintenance of various operational records for all . <br /> departments under the city Administrator's jurisdiction. <br />6. Preparation of budget for street, water and sewer. <br />7. Performance of any other duties as directed or apparent. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of <br />appointment, a Minnesota Class B drivers license. <br />Must demonstrate a working knowledge of tools, equipment and <br />supplies used in the street, water and sewer areas. <br />Should have a minimum of five years experience in a municipal <br />maintenance department. <br />Should have a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience <br />in municipal maintenance operations. <br />SUPERVISION/ACCOUNTABILITY: <br />This position provides supervision for all maintenance <br />workers except park department personnel. This position has <br />direct accountability to the City Council and City . <br />Administrator. <br />STAFF AND PUBLIC CONTACT: <br />Extensive contact with staff from other departments and the <br />general public. <br />
