Courtney for <br /> study. <br /> Proposed Liquor Ordinance <br /> Richard Meyers, Atty. for McGuire's Supper Club, was present with Mr. GleAnon <br /> from McGuulre's. Mr. Mayers stated hIs opinions as expressed In hIs letter to ","ee <br /> Council, dated October 5, 1965; copies of whIch were given to -rhe Council members. <br /> He requested the Council to reconsider Its proposed ordinance and to consider a <br /> 'system whIch would set a fixed fee whiCh would offset admInistrative expense only <br /> and not be considered as revenue. Mr. Meyers Informed the Council that McGuire's <br /> staying In business may depend on the method of licensing determined by the <br /> Council. <br /> . Mayor Kennedy stated that he belIeves a flat fee basIs would not be equitable; <br /> smal I operators could not afford to stay in &uslness. He stated that action wi II <br /> have to be taken by the end of the month, that It Is not the Village's Intent to <br /> drIve business out of the Village. He also stated that consideratIon has been <br /> given to the possibility of municipal liquor In Arden Hills, but no decision has <br /> been made as yet. <br /> Mr. Glennon stated that McGuire's has plans for another dining room and a motel, <br /> but will have to forget It If the fee Is to be based on square footage; he feels <br /> the additional taxes would more than compensate for the difference In the liquor <br /> II cense. <br /> Trustee Nethercut agreed ahat a -eetlng should be held wIth M~ulre's with Atty. <br /> Courtney present. <br /> Mayor Kennedy suggested and the Council agreed that a mee"r/ng be held on Monday, <br /> October 18, at 8:00 p.m. at the Village Hall between the Council, representation <br /> from McGuire's and Atty. Courtney. <br /> Stephenson Buildln Matter - 1658 Johanna Blvd. <br /> Lawrence McGough and A be , ne gh ors 0 e Stephenson house, were present. <br /> Mr. McGough stated that four months have passed since the issuance of the building <br /> permIt for this house and It Is stili Incomplete, altbough the Stephensons are <br /> living In this house. He stated that nothing has been done for the last 6 _ 8 <br /> \qeeks. He doesn't know what Is being burned, but sparks are frying out of the <br /> chmlney and could cause another fire. He also Informed the Council that the <br /> well Is located InsIde the house and not 3 ft. from the house as required by <br /> Ordinance. Mr. MdGough also stated that ~Iaste Is being pumped into the lake from <br /> this house and asked whether this house has been connected to the sewer. He also <br /> stated that he does not believe the electrical and heating work has be~n done <br /> accocdlng to the Code. <br /> Trustee crepeau~o~ the Council that the exterIor of the east sIde of the <br /> Stephenson hous n shed; thIs Is the only side he sees from his home. <br /> , <br /> Mayor Kennedy stated that the CouncIl felt that the old well at this site shOUld <br /> not have to be abondoned; -(-fierefore, Mr. Stephenson was permitted to use It as <br /> placed. He stated that the exterior should certainly be finished. <br /> Matter referred to 'the Clerk to request Clay Kelley, the Building Inspector, to <br /> check the exterior finishing' and that heating and electrical inspections had been <br /> . made and that the work was done by separate contractors; also to check that the <br /> house Is connected to the sanitary sewer system. <br /> Carroll Furniture Co. Sign <br /> Mr. Bredenberg from Universal Sign Co. was present and requested permission to <br /> construct a sign for Carroll Furniture Co. which had' been submitted to the Board <br /> of Appeals. Deputy ClerK Florence Honan distributed copies of the letter of <br /> recommendations from the Board of Apf)eals, dated Oct. II, 1965, concerning this <br /> matter. Mr. Bredenberg showed the Council a scaled drawing of the proposed sign. <br /> Trustee Nethercut moved,' seconded by Trustee Crepeau, that a varIance be granted, <br /> as recommended by the Board of Appeals, to permit the Universal SIgn Co. to con- <br /> struct a sign larger than al'owed by OrdInance because of'the locatIon on County <br /> Road E; motion carried. <br /> County ,Road E Hockey Rink , <br /> Fred Nixon Informed the Council that the Parks adn Recreation Commltte'e' has <br /> requested him to flood this' rink; he Informed the CouncH that he ca-n<if afford 1'0 <br /> buy a tank truck which would be used so short a time; he Informed the Counc! I tha"i- <br /> he could buy one If It could be used for sewer flushlngs the balance of oj-he year. <br /> Mr. Nixon Informed the Council that he would charge $6.00 per hour rental for the <br /> truck. <br /> -2- <br />
