Buckley stated
he recommended the 3% increase because the three employees
are very productive and for fairness and morale purposes, he
would like to see their salary ranges remain comparable to
the Public Works Department.
Councilmember Malone stated that he had discussed this
salary issue with Buckley before this evening's meeting and
noted it is incumbent upon the Council to seriously follow
t.he City's pay plan which was set up to "scale downl1
salaries in an effort to comply with Comparable Worth.
Malone also pointed out that the classifications of the jobs
of the Parks Department and the Public Works Department are
somewhat different.
,
Mayor Sather stated that some employees are under a union
contract which was negotiated before comparable Worth was a
factor. councilmember Mahowald added that the Council does .
not have the same input regarding the Public Works
Department salaJ:ies as the PaJ:ks Department since publie
\-JoJ:ks employees are represented by the union.
MOTION: Malone moved, seconded by Hicks, to bring the three
permanent PaJ:ks Department employees' salaries to
107.3% of midpoint or $13 . 47 per hour. Motion caJ:J:ied
unanimously (4-0) .
EXTENSION OF SICK LEAVE FOR
PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE
Council J:eviewed Public Works SupeJ:intendent, Dan Winkel's
repoJ:t which recommended extending sick leave benefits for
Public Works employee Fred Reed and outlining the conditions
of such action.
MOTION: Hicks moved, seconded by Malone, to direct staff to
utilize the remaindeJ: of Fred Reed's sick leave,
utilize 100 hours of vacation leave, grant 29 hours of
extended leave, and J:equest a progress report on Mr.
Reed's condition for presentation at the May 25 J:egulaJ:
Council meeting.
