CITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MINNESTOA <br /> CITY ADMINISTRATOR RECRUITMENT PROFILE <br /> The Communitv <br /> Mendota Heights is one of the Twin cities premier suburbs, <br /> offering high-quality residential and business areas. Per <br /> capita incomes and average property values are among the <br /> highest in the area, but homes in the more moderate price- <br /> bracket are also available. While the emphasis has been on <br /> maintaining large-lot, spacious development, the community is <br /> unique in its convenient location and highway access. <br /> Both I-35E and 1-494 traverse the city. Major employment <br /> centers (downtown Minneapolis, downtown st. Paul, and the <br /> Bloomington 1-494 "strip", including MSP airport, are <br /> virtually minutes away). While Mendota Heights has <br /> traditionally been thought of as a st. Paul suburb, the City <br /> is becoming more cosmopolitan, with residents employed in <br /> many parts of the metropolitan area. At the same time, the <br /> Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers form a natural green belt <br /> around the community, enabling it to maintain a quiet, <br /> private way of life. <br /> . citizens place a high emphasis on parks, open spaces, and <br /> recreation areas, as evidenced by their recent approval of a <br /> $3.4 million parks bond referendum. Excellent schools and a <br /> well-educated populace complement the traditional but <br /> progressive character of the City, civic pride and aesthetic <br /> excellence are hallmarks of Mendota Heights. <br /> Despite its residential heritage and character, the City does <br /> welcome high-quality business development, and approximately <br /> 25% of the land has been reserved for that purpose. Most of <br /> that land is owned by United Properties, one of the Twin <br /> Citie's foremost developers of business properties. Recent <br /> locations in the Mendota Heights Business Park include <br /> Solvay Animal Research Laboratories, Northland Insurance, the <br /> American Registry of Radiological Technicians., and a <br /> Courtyard by Marriott hotel. cray Research (the <br /> supercomputer giant) has long maintained facilities in the <br /> community, and intends to relocate its corporate headquarters <br /> here in the near future. <br /> Mendota Heights currently has 9,000 residents, up from about <br /> 7,200 in the 1980 census. While most of the land in the <br /> community is now platted, significant new construction of <br /> single- and mUlti-family homes shoUld continue for the next <br /> . few years. The ultimate.population projection is in the <br /> range of 12,000 - 14,000. There are currently 3,000 jobs in <br /> Mendota Heights, and. that number is expected to grow to <br /> around 6,000 by the year 2000. Land area is 10 square miles. <br />
