. CITY OF SAINT PAUL 390 City Hall Telephone: 6/2-266-85/0
Norm Coleman, Mayor /5 WeST Kellogg Boulevard Facsimile: 612-266-85/3
SaillT Paul, MN 55102
March 9, 1994
Mayor Thomas Sather
City of Arden Hills
1450 West Highway 96
Arden Hills, Minnesota 55112
Dear Mayor Sather:
The East Metro area is home to more than 80 cities and municipalities, each unique and yet
interrelated on many levels. I know that Saint Paul's economic health is dependent on that
of Metro East, just as suburban cities' economies are influenced by Saint Paul. When one
prospers, we all prosper. When one comnulfiity faces: setbacks, we all feel the a.ff~ts.
When I spoke with the people of Saint Paul in my inaugural address, I talked about
. reaching out, binding together, and becoming a community. I believe that in order for my
City and yours to truly prosper, we also need to reach out, share ideas, and develop
concerted, coordinated strategies for development in the East Metro area. With your help,
I would like to usher in a new era of regional cooperation in economic development.
I may have spoken with members of your staff at a Metro East luncheon sponsored by the
Saint Paul Port Authority in early January. I now want to bring together East Metro policy
makers like you to further the discussion. Please join me Saturday, March 26, 1994 for an
Economic Development Summit of Metro East Mayors. This invitation is extended to you
and two of your colleagues -- for example, your City Manager, City Councilmembers, or
Economic Development staff. Together, we will set priorities and plan strategies for
strengthening our regional economy. The enclosed invitation includes specific details and a
tentative agenda. For more information regarding this Summit, please contact Ray Farlcy,
Director of Intergovernmental Relations, at 266-8527, or Laura Samargia, of the City's
Planning and Economic Development Department, at 266-6646.
Sincerely,
}JtJlLW-
Norm Coleman
Mayor
.
