<br /> ------------- <br /> - <br />ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL - JUL Y 31. 1995 12 .- <br /> . <br />Ms. Ricke indicated surveys have been taken in regard to improving Perry Park and out of 71 <br />signatures 71 were in favor of the improvements and 68 were in favor oflighting the second field. . <br />Mayor Probst indicated he is in favor of the modifications to Perry Park. <br />Mr. Doug McFarland, President of Little Lakes Little League, indicated their support for . <br />improvements to Perry Park. He noted the Little Lakes Little League has approximately 1,400 <br />players on 100 Teams. I <br />Mayor Probst indicated he was in favor of the metal poles versus the use of wooden poles, even <br />though it may be slightly more expensive. I <br />Councilmember Aplikowski inquired if the irrigation was necessary. Mr. Stonehouse indicated . <br />based on his conversations with area contractors all have used irrigation, with the exception of <br />Roseville on one field, but that field was not used for one year. <br />Councilmember Aplikowski asked what type of system would it be. Mr. Stonehouse indicated the . <br />system would be similar to those on golf courses. <br />Councilmember Aplikowski expressed concern for the contractor, her hesitation was based on the -. <br />current experience with County Road F reconstruction. Mr. Stonehouse assured Council, Veit & <br />Company is a reputable company. - <br />Councilrnember Aplikowski inquired as to the time frame of the project. Mr. Stonehouse indicated <br />the start date goal is August 7, 1995. - <br />Mr. Mark Peterson, 4468 HamIine Avenue, encouraged the Council to move forward with the <br />proj ect, he believed it would be a great benefit to the City. He currently works for the Parks . <br />Department in Plymouth and is familiar with such projects. He noted sod and irrigation are a must <br />if the use of the fields are needed immediately, as are the fields in Arden Hills. . <br />Mr. Peterson applauded the efforts of Ms. Walsh and Ms. Ricke at obtaining funding for the project, <br />he has never seen where 50% of project cost is funded by donations. . <br />Ms. Ricke commented the lighting issue addressing concerns of residents and the Sheriffs <br />Department and if available she would like to see the second field also serviced by lights in this . <br />project. <br />Ms. Ricke noted in 1982 the Park Dedication fund was at $286,000 and each year the Committee . <br />has recommended to spend wisely and conservatively. The fund is now at $600,000. She noted <br />even with the expenditure of the Perry Park project, there will be a healthy fund balance remaining. -. <br /> . <br />
