I
I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
.~
. MEMORANDUM
I
DATE: August 11, 1995
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
I FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
-
I SUBJECT: Surface Water Management (SWM) 509 Capital Projects
I Back~round
The City of Arden Hills launched a Surface Water Management (SWM) utility on April I, 1993.
Among the many justifications for this new utility was the means of funding five (5) significant
I capital projects identified in the City's long-range Surface Water 509 Plan. At the time of this
utility's inception, Council directed staff to complete the 509 capital projects on a regular and
systematic basis such that they would be accomplished by 1997.
I 509 Capital Project Workplan
. Year Project Description Estimated Proiect Cost
I 1993 Keithson Pond $75,000
1994 (Valentine Pond postponed due
to 1995 Cty Rd F project) N/A
I 1995 Valentine Outlet Project 60,000
Lake Josephine Outlet Project 32,000
1996 Karth Lake Project 70,000
I 1997 Grey Fox Drainage Project 100.000
$337.000
I 1995 Budget Implication
Only the Valentine Outlet Project is included in the adopted 1995 budget. Staff would
I recommend that Council consider authorizing a $32,000 1995 budget deviation that specifically
approves the Lake Josephine 509 project in the Surface Water Management utility. This
deviation would allow a more systematic completion of the previously identified 509 capital
I projects.
Project Plans & Specifications
I Staff also recommends that Council considers authorizing the City Engineer to prepare plans and
specifications on the remaining proposed 1995 project (Lake Josephine) and the proposed 1996
I project (Karth Lake). This action will support the project work plan and assist in 1996 budget
preparation.
I .
I
