Resolution No. 03-53: Opposine: Certain Portions of the Minnesota Personal Protection Act Ms. Young stated in light of the recent incident in New York and other situations, Councilmember Larson had requested Resolution No. 03-53 and other discussion items from the Council Work Session on July 23,2003 be brought forth at the July 28 Council meeting. Councilmember Larson stated he would like to see a sign posted that stated guns and other weapons were not welcome at City Hall. He indicated this would not ban guns and other weapons, but would inform visitors that weapons were not welcome in the City Hall. MOTION: Councilmember Larson moved and Councilmember Rem seconded a motion to post a sign at the entrance to City Hall stating guns and other weapons are not welcome at City Hall and to approve and send to the legislature Resolution No. 03-53: A Resolution Stating the City Council's Opposition to Certain Provisions in the 2003 Minnesota Personal Protection Act, and Calling for Amendments to Prohibit Concealed Weapons on City Property. Mayor Aplikowski asked if the Resolutions could be taken separately. Councilmember Larson stated he would revise his motion. MOTION: Councilmember Larson moved and Councilmember Rem seconded a motion to post a sign in a prominent location at City Hall stating "Guns and other weapons are not welcome at City Hall." Mayor Aplikowski asked if they were allowed by law to post such a sign. Mr. Filla replied he believed as long as the sign did not restrict guns and other weapons, the sign was appropriate. He noted the sign was for informational purposes only and no enforcement of this would be taken
