Resolution No. 03-53: Opposine: Certain Portions of the Minnesota <br />Personal Protection Act <br /> <br />Ms. Young stated in light of the recent incident in New York and other situations, <br />Councilmember Larson had requested Resolution No. 03-53 and other discussion <br />items from the Council Work Session on July 23,2003 be brought forth at the July <br />28 Council meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Larson stated he would like to see a sign posted that stated guns <br />and other weapons were not welcome at City Hall. He indicated this would not <br />ban guns and other weapons, but would inform visitors that weapons were not <br />welcome in the City Hall. <br /> <br />MOTION: Councilmember Larson moved and Councilmember Rem <br />seconded a motion to post a sign at the entrance to City <br />Hall stating guns and other weapons are not welcome at <br />City Hall and to approve and send to the legislature <br />Resolution No. 03-53: A Resolution Stating the City <br />Council's Opposition to Certain Provisions in the 2003 <br />Minnesota Personal Protection Act, and Calling for <br />Amendments to Prohibit Concealed Weapons on City <br />Property. <br /> <br />Mayor Aplikowski asked if the Resolutions could be taken separately. <br /> <br />Councilmember Larson stated he would revise his motion. <br /> <br />MOTION: Councilmember Larson moved and Councilmember Rem <br />seconded a motion to post a sign in a prominent location <br />at City Hall stating "Guns and other weapons are not <br />welcome at City Hall." <br /> <br />Mayor Aplikowski asked if they were allowed by law to post such a sign. <br /> <br />Mr. Filla replied he believed as long as the sign did not restrict guns and other <br />weapons, the sign was appropriate. He noted the sign was for informational <br />purposes only and no enforcement of this would be taken <br />
