FLORAL PARK VOLUNTEER PROJECTS 2025 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />• Weed around daylilies <br />o where mulched, by steps and immediately under sign and down to Floral Drive curb. <br />o west of mulched area all the way to paved trailhead, along Floral Drive curb. <br />o Tools: gloves, hand lopper, lopper, hoe, spade <br />Garden #11: (proposed) <br />• Plant 7 native tall grasses (big and little bluestem, prairie dropseed, switchgrass) around new <br />tennis court portable bathroom. Four along backside parallel to Floral Drive, three along side <br />parallel to west side. <br />Summer (early) <br />Garlic Mustard Removal Project (park at-large): <br />• Pull plants carefully prior to setting seeds. <br />• Remove plants and dispose of in garbage. Once set, plant seeds will continue to mature after <br />plant itself dies. <br />• Tools: gloves, spade, fork, bags. <br />Summer <br />• Maintain gardens (mostly weeding out creeping Charlie) and garden borders. <br />Fall <br />Burdock Removal Project (park at-large) <br />• Pull large first year and second year burdock. <br />o Insert spade completely, vertically, as close to root as possible. <br />o Grab stalk against spade handle and lever back spade until you hear a “crack”. <br />• Object is to pull entire root, or at least ½ to 2/3 of root. <br />• Spray first year (small) burdock. Best done on humid mornings and turning over leaves to spray <br />undersides (pores open in mornings). Spraying must be done only by city workers! <br />• Tools: gloves, long sleeve shirt, spade, fork. <br />Bird Houses (19) (park at-large) – August to November: <br />• Clean – prior to freeze in order to wash and/or keep out mice by opening up. <br />• Tools: 3” scraper, large squirt bottle (ketchup or syrup), bucket of water, brush, bag (for debris), <br />spray disinfectant. Water, soap, bleach, and water tools are only needed if mice are found <br />nesting in the boxes. Please don’t mix bleach and soap! <br />Garlic Mustard Removal Project (park at-large): <br />• Pull plants carefully prior to setting seeds. Plant not toxic to skin. <br />• Remove plants and dispose of in garbage.
