Proposed additions are 10 housing units <br />in southeast corner of the site and a geri'atric care center with <br />180 beds in northwest corner 2-stories abutting Lake Johanna Blvd. <br />and 4-stories on lake side. Franke, attorney representing some Shorel'lood <br />Orive residents, was presented to Commissi(ln expressing their <br />concerns about proposal. Planning Commission recommends Councl I <br />approval of Special Use Permit for Geriatric Care Center and housing <br />units subject to: <br />I. Elimination of access road to unit housing from Shorewood <br />Drl ve. <br />2. Eliminate northern access to underground parking ramp from <br />Sandeen Road; limiting traffic at this access to delivery <br />trucks and surface parking area only. <br />3. Move northern extent of bui Iding construction so It aligns <br />with the north wal I of the power house (approximately 50' <br />ff'om north property I inel. <br />4. New employee surface parking area be screened from Sandeen <br />Road using earth forms and plantings. <br />5. Revised documents, resulting from changes, to be reviewed <br />by the Planning Commission before Issuance of the Building <br />Permit. <br /> <br />Rev. Hagstrom said that Presbyterian Homes has been meeting recent <br />changing needs of the elderiy, has a Certificate of Need, care <br />center wi II serve people who need help. In response to Planning <br />Commission recomm~ndations original plans have been changed to <br />accommodate all rsc'ommendations except condition No.3. Set back <br />of 20 ft. from property line has been retained for Geriatric Care <br />Center to keep tratfic within area and not cramp center. It Is <br />hoped that these changes wi II be helpful community-wise and sti II <br />provide needed services to elderly. <br /> <br />Dr, West said facility started with accommodations for 30 residents, <br />now nearly 200 liVE' on sita. There are now 22,000,000 people, 65 <br />and older in the United States. this 1'111 I rise to 30,000,000 by <br />2000. Administration wants to'contlnue to work successfully with <br />Arden Hills In this community facility. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Crichton noted that style of architecture had changed drastically, <br />looks Institutional. plan has considerable impact on the neighbor- <br />hood. Lower floor <br />is devoted entirely to out-patient or servi~e to patients In homes, <br />second and third floors provide 60 beds/floor for intermediate <br />care, 60 beds on fourth floor for ski lied nursing care. <br /> <br />Woodburn asked what kind of services are provided and what total <br />occupancy would be. Occupancy is 180 In present fac! lity (average <br />age 84.6), 180 In Geriatric Care Center, about 20 In apartr,'en.ts for <br />a total of 380 fo; 24 hours or more.
