Lee Lippert said he believes we have good officers; as an attorney he'd not want to be prosecutor because officers don't have the opportunity to keep abreast of all laws as passed; City Is not large enough to maintain a department of Its own; our department does the best it can but feels Arden Hills cannot afford the I uxury of Its own department. Suzanna Tavlor said she feels Arden Hills has a great police department; If there's a problem, feels the Council is not supporting the depart- ment. Adolph Miller, Pascal Avenue, said he Is pleased with the Arden Hills department; does not believe a bigger department will be better; feels that a smaller department 1'111' do a better job. Jim Schrodi, said he's been a resident since 1963; has had no problems with Arden Hills police; wonders about Ramsey County; they are not doing a good Job with water patrol on L~ke Johanna. Diane McAllister, 1200 Ingerson Road. asked jf the Sheriffs office wants Ardeft -IH Hs 1'll'ld--wh-y?-- Spencer said communities contract for the s&rvlce they want; County Board will consider the matter of contracting with Arden Hills; Ramsey County representatives are here tonight, on the Invitation of the City Counci I, to answer questions; City can drop out of its contract with Ramsey County, If it determines to do so, at any time. Crichton advised that the Review Board is now ready to recommend its list of names for chief, if City decides to maintain its police depart- ment. Crepeau said the Council is trying to do the best job for the most people. Charles Hem~on~, 4434 Arden View Court, said we are talking cost and responsibility; County Is governed by the Board of Commissioners; hates to equate City with the County Board. Bob WelsenberQer said he Is with the union that represents the Arden Nllis Police Department; concern is I'll II Ramsey County accept the officers I f there Is a merger; Statute says the County "may" accept these people; said the morale of the officers depends on tha officers knowing where the staff Is; can't have leadership until the job Is designated; concern he has Is for these officers - can they stay in this community; how -5- n
