OF VILLAGE PARKS D~RECTOR JOHN BUCKLEY <br /> Si te improvement Plans for City Parks <br /> Buckley re fer red Counc i I to the Comprehensive Park Plan for Arden <br /> HI II s, prepared in 1973, "nd to a book comprising the history of <br /> a II the City-owned parks; advised that Parks Committee Is currently <br /> working on a th ree to five year suggested site Improvement plan <br /> for Council's consideration. <br /> Buckley reviewed the sketches of the concept plans for the follow- <br /> ing parks, noting that natural and green areas have been retained <br /> as much as possible; parks have been planned to include the desires <br />. of the residents of the neighborhoods In which they are located. <br /> Hazelnut Park - proposes shared parking with church (on <br /> church lotI; therefore only small parking area proposed on <br /> the park site. Park Is not Intended for competitive games. <br /> it was noted by Woodburn that park, as shown on the plan, <br /> may be under-utilized. <br /> Fire Barn Open Area - proposes this to be beslcally a hold- <br /> Ing pond area; strictly passive. it was noted by Councl I <br /> that bou.ndary of this parcel Is not drawn accurately; should <br /> be re -drawn, or possibly withdrawn and not considered as a <br /> park at this time. <br /> Sampson Park - park area Isfairfly heavily '.ooded; proposes <br /> that wooded areas remain; pa rk to I ncl ude a picnic area, <br /> sandbox, blacktopped area for a ba II practice board and a <br /> park i ng area. <br /> Freeway Park <br /> Upper - is proposed for hockey and freo skating at the <br /> present; when other parks are developed, hockey rink <br /> area w I II be converted to tennis courtg. <br /> Lower - proposed as a tot lot park. <br /> Llndey's Corner Triangle - area is not VI ila!le-Owned but Is <br /> utilized as neighborhood play area - bac kstop ha 5 been In - <br /> stalled and area I s fenced from traffic areas. <br /> Buckley noted that the triangle (about I acre.:), Freeway Park <br /> (about I acre) and the Island (~sland Beach Club pr.operty) <br /> are the only parks serving this area of the Village; only <br /> remaining anticipated park In this area Is 5 TO 6 acres north <br /> of County Road E (at time of TeCH development). <br /> Counc I I discussed possible changes In acreage needs, since <br /> preparation of the Comprehensive Park Plan; asked Buckley <br /> to re-evaluate park area needs according to present activity <br /> preferences. <br /> Counc I I concurred that Lots 3 and 4, Block I, Shady Oaks <br />. Addition not be encumDered for park purpose~. <br /> Ungerson Park <br /> Buckley reported that park is pretty llIell developed as shown <br /> except for the picnic shelter, Jogging path and practice board. <br /> Charles Perry Park <br /> Buckley reported that the west area Is essentially complete <br /> as shown on concept plan; east area Is proposed for future <br /> development. <br /> Buckley explained that this park Is designed essentially <br /> for team play; not prlmarlly neighborhood use. <br /> Hunters Park <br /> Buckley reported that Dreyfus Corp. Is anxious to I osta II the <br /> walking path Cnoted that Dreyfus advertisements refer to It <br /> as a "continental bikeway". <br /> -2- <br /> ------------ <br />
