Trade-In value in one year would be $300 to $500 less <br />on a "Nova" than on an "Impala". <br />2. Additional expense Items would be necessary if smaller <br />car is purchased: <br />a. Radio and lights. <br />b. Different screens. <br />c. Br~ckets for top lights. <br />d. Bucket seats would not be ~ransferable. <br />e. Desk, built to OSHA standards <br />(Estimated this One-time expense a'; approximately $800.) <br /> <br />Depreciation Factor <br />LaValle said if one squad is to be retained and one replaced, <br />he recommendi retaining the 1974, because it does not use <br />lead-free gas; value of 1974 wi II depreciate from .$1 100 to <br />$600 In one year; value of 1975 will depreciate from $1500 to <br />$800 in one year. <br /> <br />Overhaul of Both Cars <br />LaValle reported that "complete" replacement Is not avai lable; <br />short block would cost about .$839 plus labor (13t hrs.) about <br />$243; noted that new heads would be needed @ about $254; ex- <br />haust and intake valves should be replaced at about $86.80 etc. <br /> <br />Rotation of Belted Tires <br />LaValle said only 4 tires are rotated; at about 42000 mi les, <br />three new tires will be purchased and spare (5th tire) wi II be <br />used (best of 4 will be used as a spare). <br /> <br />Safety Factor <br />LaValle reported that no serious injuries have been experienced <br />by an Arden Hills Officer in a squad car - have always had a <br />full-sized car; longer wheel base is safer, in his estimation. <br /> <br />-4- <br />
