City of Arden Hills
Project B2502087
June 13, 2025
Page 3
A.3. Purpose
The purpose of our geotechnical/pavement evaluation was to characterize subsurface geologic conditions
at selected exploration locations, evaluate their impact on the project, and provide geotechnical
recommendations for the design and construction of street rehabilitation using an assumed R-value,
associated utility improvements, and trail improvements.
A.4. Background Information and Reference Documents
We reviewed the following information:
▪Email request with map regarding proposed scope of work from Bolton & Menk, Inc.,
received on February 12, 2025.
▪Geologic map titled M-178, Surficial Geology of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area,
Minnesota prepared by the Minnesota Geological Survey, dated 2007.
▪Traffic data available via the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Traffic
Mapping Application, http://www.dot.state.mn.us/traffic/data/tma.html.
▪Enterprise MnDOT Mapping Application (EMMA), https://dotapp9.dot.state.mn.us/emma/.
A.5. Scope of Services
We performed our scope of services for the project in accordance with our Proposal for a
Geotechnical/Pavement Evaluation (QTB210666) dated February 21, 2025 and authorized on
March 10, 2025. The following list describes the geotechnical tasks completed in accordance with our
authorized scope of services.
▪Reviewing the background information and reference documents previously cited.
▪Staking and coordinating the clearing of our exploration locations for underground utilities.
We selected and staked the new exploration locations. We acquired the surface elevations
and locations with GPS technology using the State of Minnesota’s permanent GPS base station
network. The Soil Boring Location Sketch included in the Appendix shows the approximate
locations of the borings and pavement cores.
