Minutes of Regular Council Meeting
July 23, 1983
Page Four

.,

McAllister reported that the Public Safety Committee recommended
that Council investigate a stop light system to alleviate the
apparent problem; referred Council to McNiesh's memo (7/22/83)
relative to dat a received from MN DOT.

In discussion, it was suggested by Mr. Timm (Public Safety Com-
mittee member) that Mr. Salitrosbe advised of the $75,000-$85,000
semaphore cost and invite him to attend a Council mee~tng to dis-
cuss alternatives. It was reported that Dave Lissner (Bethel College)
has discussed signage with former Councilmsn M. Johnson to effect-
ively direct traffic to Bethel College entrance on Old Highway 10.
It was noted that it is a "driving courtesy" to let cars on Hamline .
into the traffic lane, and a "traffic law" to not block an inter-
section.

It was the general concensus of Council that an acceptable solution
to Salitros' problem ie not apparent; the recommended additional
semaphore, "no right turn" sign and additional directional signs
are not considered acceptable. Matter was deferred pending remarks
from Salitros. .

No Parking Sign - Arden View Drive

Council was referred to Public Safety Committee recommendations
(Minutes of 7/18/83 meeting).

Council concurred with the Public Safety Committee recommendations
and authorized Johansen to instsll "No Psrking" signs on the east
side of Arden View Drive, from the corner of Arden View Drive,
along the retsining wall and around the bend (spacing and height
to comply with traffic law requirements).

Reduction of Speed on New Brighton Road

Council was referred to the recommendations of the Parks and Recrea-
tion and Public Safety Committees:

Public Safety Committee:

1.
