-.
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
.. MEMORANDUM
I DATE: March 12, 1996
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
I I
SUBJECT: Worksession Public Works Roundtable Items
I MN DOT Highway Improvement
The City of Arden Hills Public Works Superintendent has been informed by MN DOT of
I Highway Improvements scheduled this coming summer in Arden Hills. Specifically, Highway
51 will be overlayed from Interstate 694 South to the County Road E area. Highway 10 from
694 Northwest to Interstate 35W will be milled and overlayed. Neither of these segments will be
I closed, however traffic would be restricted to single lanes during construction.
EVP (Emergency Vehicle Preemption)
I In every meeting with the Ramsey County Public Works Department concerning reconstruction
or upgrading county roads it has been advised by the County that a EVP system be installed with
any new traffic signals. It has been the County's policy not to pay for the EVP system and to
.- assess the Cities for costs. Mr. Stafford would like Council to provide direction on how to
respond to the County's advise on installing EVP and what funding would be used.
I Old 10 Watermain
Mr. Stafford has prepared a report asking that the segment of 6 inch waterline between County
I Road F and Valentine be replaced due to an unusual amount ofrepairs on this segment. Since
that report Mr. Stafford has made another report asking Council to consider finishing the
unfinished segment ofwatermain between Wedgewood Circle and Highway 96. In the cost
I estimate Mr. Stafford has not included engineering fees or contractor profit. If Council approves
construction of one or both segments staff will order plans and specifications be drawn.
I
I
I
~.
I
I
----- --
