After the marketing brochure is produced the EDC will be focusing on business
retention activities.
I Councilmember Aplikowski (liaison to the EDC) and Chair McCallum sponsored a luncheon for
business people within Arden Hills in October of 1996 at the Holiday Inn on County Road E.
I The luncheon discussed issues that businesses have with the City.
I The EDC has been working with the replacement ofthe banners along County Road E. The
EDC has approached the businesses along County Road E on their interest in participating
financially in this project. The Staff has provided the EDC with several cost alternates to discuss
I with the businesses
The Staff is finalizing the loan agreement with Cardiac Pacemakers Incorporated for the
Ie $300,000 grant (forgivable loan) which they received from the State of Minnesota in September
of 1996. cpr has also informed Staff that they will be requesting approval (late 1997) to
construct an infill building on their campus which will provide 100 -200 new jobs, primarily
I scientists.
The Staff has been working with Welsh Development on Phase II of the Gateway Business
I District. The
City Attorney has informed Staff that they property owner of 1900 Edgewater Avenue
I has an approximately $60,000 mortgage on the property. Given, that the cost of
demolition is approximately $10,000 and that a raw lot in that area might achieve
$35,000 on the open market, the prospects of the owner accepting the City offer, or any
I other offer is remote. Condemnation and abatement of the nuisance/dangerous building
would appear to be imminent.
I
fI
I ~.
