<br />. <br /> <br />Minutes of the Arden Hills Regular CouncH Meeting, 3-26-90 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />REQUEST CUISS A <br />GAMBLING LICENSE; <br />'lW) ORGANIZATIONS <br /> <br />Council was referred to a meIOOrandum from Deputy Clerk <br />Iago dated 3-22-90, relative to the two applications <br />received for Class A O1aritable Gambling Licenses. <br /> <br />Iago stated the current Ordinance limits the number of gambling licenses to nine <br />and advised if the two applications are approved this evening, the City will have <br />a full carrplement of licenses; seven Class A and two Class B licenses. She noted <br />the Light Brigade held a Class B license to sell pull-taJ::s at the Blue Fox Inn <br />and have been prohibited by the state Gaming Board from selling at that location <br />due to an illegal gambling violation by the establishment, not the Light Brigade. <br />Iago stated the Light Brigade cannot resume its operation at the Blue Fox until <br />June 30, 1990 and if the two Class A licenses are approved this evening, no <br />further licenses will be available to the Light Brigade. <br /> <br />Councillnernber Malone recalled the Council had discussed the number of licenses <br />available and determined the applications should be considered on a "first-come, <br />first-serve" basis. <br /> <br />Representatives from both charities were present and eouncil requested they give <br />a brief overview of their respective charities activities. <br /> <br />Representatives from the lady Slipper Chapter of American Business Womens <br />Association and C.B. Society, Inc. addressed the eouncil on their respective <br />charities activities, membership, and length of existence. <br /> <br />Council thanked the representatives for the information. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />There was discussion relative to type of criteria the state utilizes for approval <br />of charitable gambling licenses. <br /> <br />Attorney Filla advised the State reviews the legal structure of the organization, <br />verifies the credentials of the persons operating the activities; there are no <br />regulation or =ntrol on specific items funded by the organizations only that the <br />funds be utilized for "lawful purposes" as outlined by the guidelines. <br /> <br />After discussion, Council concurred to review the applications received on a <br />"first-come, first-serve" basis and maintain the current number of charitable <br />gambling licenses. <br /> <br />Malone moved, seconded by Mahowald, to approve the <br />applications for Class A Charitable Gambling Licenses for Bingo at the Pot 0 Gold <br />Hall, from Lady slipper Chapter of ABWA and C.B. Society, Inc., as suhnitted. <br />Motion carried unanimously. (4-0) <br /> <br />APPOIN'IMENT ; <br />PUB. SAFETY /WKS <br />CCMMI'ITEE <br /> <br />Council was referred to a letter from Richard Roessler, <br />dated 3-22-90, requesting appointment to the Public <br />Safety/Works Committee. <br /> <br />Mayor Sather recommended appointment of Richard Roessler to the PS/W Committee. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Malone moved, seconded by Hansen, to ratify Mayor <br />Sather's appointment of Richard Roessler, 1261 Nursery Hill Lane, to the Public <br />Safety/Works Committee, and directed staff to forward the appropriate letter of <br />appointment to Mr. Roessler. Motion carried unanimously. (4-0) <br />
