With regard to using a charitablc gambling contribution, Mayor Probst stated this is appropriate <br /> in the long-term but, due to the short timclinc, it may not work with this request. <br /> . Councilmember Malonc stated hc is concerncd that government would support this and he does <br /> not see evidcnce to support an argument about the factual relationship. Hc agreed these are nice <br /> statemcnts but hc does not know that govcrnment should bc involvcd in this. Councilmember <br /> . Malone asked how government has any roll in impacting this issue. <br /> Mayor Probst cncouraged Councilmcmber Malone to attcnd thc evcnt tomorrow night which will <br /> . be attended by represcntatives from the Research Institute who can address that issue. <br /> MOTION: Aplikowski movcd and Hicks secondcd a motion to authorizc the execution of the <br /> .e Statcment of Commitmcnt toward building hcalthy youth assets in Arden Hills <br /> and to designate $500 towards this program. <br /> . Councilmember Hicks statcd hc has no idea whcthcr a $500 contribution by each of the eight <br /> cities is a reasonable budget and suggcsted the motion be revised to have each city participate <br /> . equally with othcr donors. Hc stated it is difficult to oppose anything that invests in youth and <br /> agrced that most arc family-gcncratcd values, rathcr than goverument. However, if the program <br /> can save two to threc youth thcn maybc it's worth thc investment. <br /> . With regard to the suggested amendment, Mayor Probst inquired rcgarding thc impact if one of <br /> thc other cities chooscs not to contribute. <br /> I Councilmembcr Keim stated that whilc she endorses the Statement of Commitment, she has a <br /> difficult timc with the rcquest for a contribution. <br /> . The motion carricd 3-2, with Malonc and Keim voting against. <br /> . F. Resolution #97-45, Authorizing Execution of Sub-Grant Agreement for Federal <br /> Assistance <br /> . Ms. Walsh explaincd thc proposcd rcsolution is neccssary in thc process of accepting money <br /> from the federal government. By adopting thc resolution, the City is authorizing the City <br /> .e Administrator to sign thc sub-grant agrecment that releases thc rcimbursable money. She <br /> I <br />
