I
plan because of several safety concerns. I
Welsh Park Dedication for Phases II. III and IV ..
I had planned to meet with a representative from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to stake the
trail location along the sOllth and west side of Round Lake. Unfortunately, he canceled our
meeting. I hope to reschedule for the week of July 28. After I am able to stake the area, I will be I
in a position to talk to Welsh about what property we may need to acquire as a part of the park
dedication ful fillment. I will most likely be advocating a combination of cash in lieu of
dedication as well as some land for trail construction, I
Tonv Schmidt Park Redevelopment Task Force
Ramsey County will be asking the City Council to appoint two residents to the task force I
sometime in September to assist in developing a master plan for the site, Since we have received
several calls from residents interested in serving, I have mailed committee/task force application
forms to help us in making a decision on who to appoint. I
Ramsev Countv Trail Easement North of the 02:ren Develooment
The trail easement was moved by Ramsey County to its proper location last fall. However, they I
did not do a very good job of clearing and grubbing the area. I have talked to Larry Holmberg
about cleaning up the path so that it is useable. He has agreed to do so within the next month, It I
appears that once the County cut a path on the correct easement, they forgot to return to clean up
the area,
Park Maintenance ..
Staff is working on putting up the swings at Hazelnut Park. We hope to have it completed
sometime next week. Parks and trail areas are being mowed as often as possible. The rain and I
humidity makes the grass grow so quickly, but it is too wet to mow several of our low areas. We
use the opportunity of rain days to service the equipment.
Pro2:ram Report I
The 1997 Safety Camp will be held August 13th and 14th. Tracy has met monthly with staff
from the Cities of Shoreview and New Brighton to plan this event. We currently have 30 I
participants registered from Arden Hills,
Tracy has been attending the Healthy Youth Coalition meetings for the past year. The coalition I
will be hosting a "kick-off' event in September to get marketing information out to the public.
Tracy and Council member Aplikowski will be working on the publicity for this event. I
The following programs began in July: pre-soccer, swimming, basketball, pee wee sports, and
parent/child mini-sports. The Penny Carnival will be held at Perry Park on July 25.
