I
I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
I- MEMORANDUM
DATE: July 22, 1997
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator ~~
I FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
SUBJECT: Monthly Department Head Report
I Public Safety Commission
I The Public Safety Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on July 17, 1997 at the
City Public Works garage. Two issues were discussed at this meeting:
I . The possibility of a Public Safety questionnaire being sent to residents
. The possibility of a two-year construction warranty vs. the standard one-year
warranty on construction work
I The Public Works Superintendent provided Commission members with a sample questionnaire
from White Bear Township. This questionnaire asks for suggestions or comments on safety
Ie issues in their city. The Public Works Superintendent asked Commission members to consider
providing Arden Hills residents with a similar questionnaire. This issue was discussed and
I members agreed to draft a questionnaire specific to Arden Hills, and see if it could be added to
the City's newsletter at some point.
I The Commission also discussed the Public Works Superintendent's idea of exploring the
possibility of a two-year warranty on construction work performed in the City. Currently, the
City has a one-year warranty on construction projects; however, problems often show up after
I this period. A one-year warranty is common among most cities. The Commission endorsed
this idea, and the Public Works Superintendent will explore the ramifications of a two-year
warranty.
I Public Works Department
The security system is finally complete on both water towers now. Installation was more
I difficult than expected, and City workers did some of the work to hold costs down.
Blacktop millings form this year's overlay projects were taken by the City for use in upgrading
I the lift s'tation access below Perry Park.
I Streets that had been seal coated this year were swept again, and the City finds many uses for
this material.
..
I
----
