I'
I Administrator Comments for the 7/28/97 Council Meeting
Page Five
" July 25, 1997
The second is the exceptional amount of building permits processed by
I this department. To,date this year, the City has already exceeded the total
building permits issued for each of the last seven (7) years, (This is as far
back as my records go,) To further amplify this, the City has issued $25
I million in permits through July 15, 1997, During the full year of 1992, the
City issued $21.7 million in permits, 1992 was the high water mark prior
to this year, The other item of interest is that in 1996, prior to making the
I change to a staff position, the City contract inspectors worked in excess of
3,000 hours to handle $18,2 million in valuations, Obviously, in 1997, we
have handled the $25 million in valuation with approximately 1,100 hours
I of staff time, All of this activity is also in addition to the code
enforcement responsibilities of the Building Inspector,
I e. Financc/Budgct
1. News Articles
I We have been looking into methods to communicate the impact of levy
limits and ramifications to Arden Hills residents of the 1998 property tax
Ie bill. The first of a series of articles addressing the 1998 Budget process
will be published in the August issue of the Arden Hills Notes,
1 2, 1998 Budget
Staff continues to refine the preliminary 1998 Budget. During this past
month, we've worked on the 1998 - 2002 Capital Improvement Plan and
I various budget issues which will affect the 1998 Budget.
f. Parks and Recreation
I The two items I've been involved with in this area include the ramifications of the
various storm damages to our trails, and the Highway 96 Trail realignment.
I g. Personnel
1. Performance Reviews
I I've been preparing for, or have conducted, performance reviews for Kevin
Ringwald, Dave Scherbel, Terry Post, Dwayne Stafford, and Sheila
I StowelL
2. Receptionist Vacancy
I With the resignation of Carolyne Kapitan, I've begun the recruitment
process, I hope to complete interviews in early August, and hopefully
t' have someone on board before Carolyne leaves,
I
