,
Minimum Landscaping Requirements
. Under the City's landscape plan design requirements 17.38 caliper inches of trees are
required (the minimum total caliper inches required for trees can hc arrived at by dividing the
gross square footage of all floors of the building [5,563 by 320) for this case. The applicant
has proposed 56.00 caliper inches of deciduous and ornamental trees and 33.30 caliper inches
of coniferous trees on the site. The result is 89.30 total caliper inches of new trees, which
meets the requirement per the minimum landscaping requirements. In the 4.5 to 5 Inch
Caliper Inch category the proposed landscaping does not meet the requi.red 3.48 caliper
inches, However, this is offset by the proposed landscaping being more than 4 times the
required total amount
Caliper Inches of Trees (required / proposed)
Required for
buildings of 1-2 50 % (8.69) 30 % (5.21) 20 % (3.48)
Stories
Proposed # of (61.30) (28.00) (0.00)
Caliper Inches
. ***The numbers /isted under the "proposed" section are for new trees only; the existing trees on
site would not to be preserved. The Landscape Plan section of our Zoning Ordinance
Procedural Manual reads "A reasonable attempt shall he made to protect and preserve existing
trees and incorporate them into the landscape plan. Therefore, the proposed development is more consistent with the
signage requirements of Highway 96, than the signage requirements of Sign Distriet 7 which
are primarily destination oriented. Staff has reviewed the signage as compared to the
requirements of Sign District 6.
The plans indicate one monument sign perpendicular to Highway 96 at the northwest portion
ofthe property, and some signage on the building and fueling canopy. In addition to the Sign
District f) regulations, section 333.12 of the Sign Ordinance allows another 25 square feet of
. \\Earth\Planning\Planning Cases\2005\05-13 Holiday Station StOTCS - Round Lake Road and 96 - SUP, PUD, Preliminary Plat (PENDJNG)\06-
01-04 PC RCp011 Holiday OS-13.doc
