Celebrating Arden Hills
. The main focus of the Parks and Recreation Department has been the event this weekend.
Tickets are still being sold and there will be tickets available the day ofthe event.
. If the PRTC can fill their booth with committee members the PRTC will have their own
booth. If the shifts cannot be filled, the City booth and PRTC booth may be combined.
She distributed a schedule for committee members to fill out.
Ms. Olson noted the Playground Program started this week and is going very well. The program
has 150 children enrolled.
. Committee Member Thompson advised there is a shack at Tony Schmidt Park where the petting
zoo is typically located. Ms. Olson stated the YMCA would be moving the building for the day.
Committee Member Thompson stated she is available to help set up for the event in the morning.
Mr. Moore noted Committee Member Straumann advised him about an e-mail that was received
from Ramsey County regarding the railroad underpass. The e-mail indicated Canadian Pacific
and the County have agreed on price. The City should be notified very soon. The project would
start after the purchase agreement is approved. Work could possible begin this fall.
Committee Member Crassweller inquired about the status of the Arden Hills Library. Council
Liaison Grant advised a task force is being created to find anyway possible to keep the library
open. The library is scheduled to close December 31, 2004.
Chair Henry suggested the library be closed and put those resources into the Roseville Library.
Committee Member Crassweller suggested the residents in the Valentine Hills area be somehow
connected to the library with a path along the lake. The residents would then not have to walk
the street and the library could possibly stay open.
Council Liaison Grant advised the last plan was to move the library and combine it with an
. environmental center. There is just not enough money to rebuild the library. A committee needs
to be formed to focus on rebuilding or at a minimum keeping it open. There are already two
committee members and more are needed.
