e CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: January 23, 1998
TO: Bri,. Fri"i.g". City Admi'i"rn@)
FROM: Terrance Post, City Accountant 11P
SUBJECT: Charitable Gambling LicensefPremiscs Permit Renewals
At the January 26, 1998 regular Council meeting, Council will be presented with several
resolutions dealing with the above subject. The Minnesota Gambling Control Board requires the
local unit of government to evidence approval by individual resolutions rather than by group
consent. Following is a brief overview of the resolutions.
1. Resolution No. 98-14, "Resolution Approving Bingo Hall License Renewal
Application"
This renewal application is from applicant Pot 0' Gold for the period from June I, 1998
to May 31, 1999. Staff is not aware of any issues that would cause staff not to endorse
this resolution. Council may recall the last time this license was renewed that Council
e specifically questioned the applicant on after-session parking lot outflow concerns.
2. Light Brigade, Inc., Premises Permit Renewals
a. Resolution No, 98-15, "Resolution Approving Light Brigade Charitable Gambling
Bingo Hall Premises Permit Renewal Application." This Premises Permit
renewal involves the applicant's request to continue conducting Class A bingo
operations at the Pot 0' Gold for the period from April I, 1998 to March 31,
2000.
b. Resolution No. 98-16, "Resolution Approving Light Brigade Charitable Gambling
Premises Permit Renewal Application at Blue Fox." This Premises Permit
renewal involves the applicant's request to continue Class B pull tab operations at
the Blue Fox Inn for the period from April I, 1998 to March 31, 2000.
Staff has no hesitation in endorsing both of these Premise Permit renewal resolutions.
The Light Brigade is an outstanding local organization that prides itself on trying to
contribute 100% of net profits in the form oflocal trade area donations. In the last two
years, the Light Brigade has made over $450,000 in local trade area donations to a variety
of local organizations, including several schools in the Mounds View School District.
e
--------
