I have begun to prioritize the proposed trail connections into categories. I will be explaining this .
further as we get into the budget process.
Youth Associations
Girls Fast pitch, Little League Baseball, and North Suburban Soccer Association have all begun
their seasons. As our City youth t-ball and softball programs begin, all City fields will be used
from now until mid-August.
Dav in the Park
The event will be held June 6 at Hazelnut Park from 11:00 - 2:00. Council members are invited
to attend.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Trail Easement
We have received approval to construct a 10 foot wide bituminous trail on the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife property. This Right-of-Way permit is needed to constmct the trail abutting Phase I of
the Gateway Business District. Council approval of this easement will be on the consent agenda.
Park Maintenance
The maintenance staff have been busy! Actually, they are behind in mowing City park and trail
areas. They have the majority of the play structure up at Freeway Park and will hopefully finish
construction on the border next week. The shredded wood fiber that provides the safety cushion
fill beneath the play structure will be delivered by the end of May.
Staff have been helping Shoreview with clean-up this week. Although this has put us behind in .
our projects, I am glad we are helping them. Maintenance staff seem happy to help out as well.
Recreation Programs
* The elementary track program at Valentine Hills and Island Lake Elementary schools has a
total of 220 participants.
* 50+ 4 - 6 year olds participated in the t-ball and soccer mini-camp program this Spring.
* A USTA tennis carnival will be held on Saturday, May 30 at Mounds View High School. This
is a free event sponsored by the United States Tennis Association to promote tennis.
* The Spring Dance Recital was held on Thursday, May 7. There were over 250 participants.
* Tracy continues to work on hiring summer staff, Day in the Park event, t-ball and youth
softball, coaches training, and the summer playground program.
.
