4/5
. 0 connects city neighborhoods
0 reduces paved areas
0 creates a distinct design for Arden Hills
Gateways Gateway locations are noted on Figure 7.1. The intent is
that special attention be paid to enhancing intersections
where there is an entrance to the community. Special
attention may include street and curb realignments,
burying overhead utility lines, berming and landscaping.
Design parameters need to be developed to help define
each intersection.
Implementation
of Parkways Because each candidate parkway is so different in its
character, the effort is to create design themes that adapt to
a variety of situations. The intent is not to dramatically
alter the existing character of each road, rather to enhance
the function of each street though these improvements.
These improvements could include themes in landscape
materials, pavement, curbing, road width, lighting,
signage, trails, access management, medians, overhead
utility line managementlburial, on-street parking
. requirements, community entrances/signage, etc. These
design themes need to be chosen by the community, and
will be implemented as the streets are improved or
reconstructed. The following steps will guide the
implementation process:
1. Create a set of design themes and guidelines, through a community input
process. Each route and relevant information is shown in Table 7.2. These
characteristics and data can be further analyzed to create a set of design
guidelines that can be adapted to a variety of local roadway conditions. Local
neighborhoods along the routes can be instrumental in choosing the appropriate ,
design standards.
2. Use design guidelines to determine final design for each parkway or gateway
intersection is upgraded. When a roadway is ready to be upgraded, the design
guidelines will be llsed by the City to determine the specific design for each
parkway or gateway.
3. Identify City funding sources for additional improvements. Identify funding
through the Capital Improvements Plan and annual budget. Pursue grants and
other sources of outside funding for enhancements.
. City of Arden Hills Comprehensive Plan Page 81
