. fl]BRW --..-....-----.-- ._________.._n_
:tI~:h:Jl~ ;."DAMES-&-MOOREuGROO"PCOMPANY----
November 18, 1998 Thresher Square
700 Third Street South
Minneapolis, Minnesou 55415
6123700700 Tel
612370 1378 Fax
Mr, Brian Fritsinger
City Administrator
City of Arden Hills
4364 West Round Lake Road
Arden Hills, MN 55112
RE: Lift Station #3 Reconstruction Project
Dear Brian:
Bids were received and opened for the above-referenced project on November 6, 1998, Bids were received
from seven (7) contractors as follows:
Contractor Base Bid Amount C:orrected Bid
1. Jay Bros" Inc, $ 69,593,00
2. CCS Contracting $ 76,839,00 $ 76,589.00
3, Great Western Corporation $ 85,226.50
4, Lametti & Sons, Inc, $ 86,700,00
5, Ford Construction Company, Inc. $ 99,134.00
. 6. GHT Construction, Inc, $ 137,800,00
7, Richard Knutson, Inc. $ 174,135,76 $ 174,138.76
Engineer's Estimate $ 61,600.00
All bids had proper bid guarantees in the amount of ten percent (10%) of the total bid as required by the
Project Manual. A bid tabulation was performed to verify the total bid amounts and two bids contained
minor errors which have been corrected as shown above. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached for your
information.
The low bid amount is approximately $8,000.00 or 13% above the Engineer's Estimate. We have reviewed
the contractor's bid to determine where the discrepancies occurred, Jay Bros. unit price for the lift station
pumping equipment was $15,000 greater than the engineer's estimate while the electrical system unit price
was $6,500.00 less than our estimate. Most other items were very close to the engineer's estimate, After
review of all of the bids it is the City Engineer's opinion that the low bid represents a fair price for the
proposed work The City Council could consider rejecting all bids and reletting the project at a later date
however, it is the City Engineer's opinion that at best a minor reduction in bid prices is possible and prices
may even increase with another letting, The work is well suited to winter conditions and therefor letting the
project in the fall should reflect a competitive bidding environment
The following is a list of subcontractors and suppliers that Jay Bros" Inc, has indicated will work on the
project:
Fllnction SII hcontractor/Sllppller
Pump Equipment ABS Pumps - Northern Water Works & Supply
. Control Panel Professional Control Products - Northern Water Works & Supply
Electrical Bacon's Electric
Dewatering (if needed) Blake Drilling
Offices Worldwide
----------------
