COUNCIL REPORT Councilmember Malone stated that Mr. Thomas Moore had been hired as the new Parks and Recreation Director to replace Cindy Walsh who recently took a position with the City of Saint Louis Park. Councilmember Malone stated that Fox 29 has been discussing the construction of the proposed tower in their original location, which was their first choice. The Arsenal had been their second choice and the Vaughn property their third choice. Councilmember Malone stated that, as part of Ramsey County's turn-back road program, the City of Arden Hills would be receiving Lake Johanna Boulevard, from Country Road D to County Road E. The City does not want to acquire this roadway as it is in need of rebuilding and this would be a difficult project. The County has suggested New Brighton Road as an alternative that is longer but in better condition. Councilmember Malone stated that the purchase of the Indykiewicz property had been completed and the residents have moved out. With the purchase of the property, the City acquired the equipment, which will be auctioned (jll site at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 16, 1999. Councilmember Malone stated that the road construction of West Round Lake Road is ready to begin and the project is anticipated to cost $800,000. The road will bend to the east and the excess land may be a consideration for the Neighborhood Business District. Councilmember Malone stated that the City Hall bids are in and the cost for the project will be approximately $3 million dollars. The land purchase has not yet been completed and the City has until June 11, 1999 to finalize the agreement. Commissioner Nelson asked what the estimate had been for the new City Hall. Councilmember Malone stated that the bids came in within a couple percent of the estimate. He noted that the $3 million dollars is for everything, including furniture and landscaping. Councilmember Malone stated that the City of Arden Hills is involved in preliminary discnssions with MNDOT regarding Hamline Avenue and Highway 694 which may involve $40 million dollars worth of work. With regard to Planning Case 99-01, Official Map Amendment, Councilmember Malone stated that, at their last City Council meeting, the Council voted to deny the amendment to the Official Map and to approve the construction of two temporary cul-de-sacs. COMMISSION COMMENTS Commissioner Rye asked Councilmember Malone if there was a status on the creation of a website for the City of Arden Hills. Councilmember Malone stated that the City Council recently updated the Committee system. He indicated that there is a plan in place to create a Communication Committee, which would involve items such as the newsletter and a website.
