The planning effort resulted in policies for
the neighborhood as a whole and specific design guidelines for the
conunercial nodes and the arterial street that links them.

Station Area Development Guidelines for the Regional Transit

Stations

Triangle Transit Authority, Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina

This document for local planners, officials and developers was a practical
manual on how to coordinate land use, urban design and transportation
facilities in the vicinity of future transit stations. It aimed to broaden the
understanding of the relationship between pedestrian-oriented land uses
and multi-modal transportation, described design and regulatory
techniques for creating mixed-use, compact conununities near stations,
and identified ways through which market forces could be harnessed to
achieve these and other objectives. The manual was fully illustrated with
sketches, maps and photos. Bill Weber was the primary author.

St. Cloud Commons

St. Cloud Conunons is a unique 15-acre shopping center with a
non-traditional approach featuring a clustered building design with
storefronts on three sides rather than the usual "sttip center" site
organization. A central service court provides service access, and the
store front areas are characterized by an internal landscaped street
featuring pedestrian-scale decorative lighting and overstory trees. The
streetscape includes a public gathering area with a fountain and site
furnishings,

BRW, Inc,

City of Arden Hills
Planning Services Jor the Civic Center Zoning Distria

#25438.<CBRW7i99

11
