PAUL - MINNEAPOLIS METROPOLITAN AREA: <br /> <br />The area is considered to include the seven counties of Anoka, <br />Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington, with the <br />core being St. Paul and Minneapolis, located in Ramsey and <br />Hennepin Counties respectively. The location is in the southern <br />third of the state just west of the Wisconsin border, 115 miles <br />north of Iowa, 200 miles east of South Dakota and 300 miles south <br />of Canada. The 2000 census shows St. Paul to have a population of <br />287,151, and Minneapolis, 382,618. The suburban area has a <br />population of 1,972,287, for a total 2000 census population of <br />2,642,056 people for the seven county metropolitan area. The 1990 <br />census shows St. Paul to have a population of 272,235 and <br />Minneapolis 368,383, with the metropolitan area population being <br />2,482,858. As can be seen, the Twin Cities metropolitan area has <br />had a substantial growth over the past ten years. <br /> <br />St. Paul is the county seat of Ramsey County and also the capital <br />of the state of Minnesota, while Minneapolis is Hennepin County's <br />county seat. <br /> <br />Climate-wise, the area is favorable, with four season living. The <br />coldest month is January, with an average temperature of 12 <br />degrees. The warmest month is July, with an average of 72 <br />degrees. There are generally 17 days annually of 90 degree <br />weather, and 166 days between killing frosts. The annual rainfall <br />averages 26 inches, and the average snowfall is 40 inches. The <br />elevation is 900 feet. <br /> <br />The area const:itm:es one of the nation's largest transportation <br />centers, served by maj or rall trunk and switching llnes. Maj or <br />airlines serve the area through the Minneapolis St. Paul <br />International Airport, located on the south side of both cities. <br />Major industries include food processing and products, dairy <br />products, textiles and apparel, lumber and furniture, paper, <br />printing and publishing, primary and fabricated metals, machinery <br />and electronics. <br /> <br />4 <br />
